Rifle decisions

Still on the fence with fireDot but I do like the vx6hd in general.
I have 2 of them in MOA recticle and they are nice for weight. Very reproducible at range just don't have the optics of a Nightforce. Good option when weight is a factor, just got one of the new ZEISS and it has potential!

Do as Salmonchaser suggested. Take the rifle you shoot best with and have full confidence in. Practice shooting at all angles, shooting different positions and in inclement weather. Have a grand adventure. MTG

Which one gives you the warm and fuzzy feeling?
I personally like brakes and if you shoot the RUM better then take it and good luck and have fun.

On average I shoot the rum better. I also have confidence in the vx6hd. Hunted multiple weeks last year with it in all sorts of conditions from downpours, sub freezing (15+/-) snow etc...it performed perfectly. Very robust scope imho.

How are the turrets on your vx6hd? That's what I bought from Holland, but limited past experience with Leupold was not impressive.
Dialed at least two dozen times for elevation and so far it has returned to zero

1.25 pounds is nothing. When you start talking 10-11 pounds then might start considering weight. Shot dall 20 years ago with 10 pound rifle and desert bighorn sheep last year with a 6 and guarantee total package was a lot heavier last year. Think might be added weight on something. Sounds like your in shape. Enjoy.

You asking this question now has me asking the same. A

I have a fierce in 300wm that I thought would be a little heavy for my sheep hunt so I bought a Kimber Montana in 280ai.
The Kimber comes in at 7.4# all in (that's gun, scope, fully loaded with 4 extra rounds as well). Which was about what I was shooting for.

My fierce comes in at 9.25#. That's just gun and scope and fully loaded. No sling or extra rounds.
So to the op, what model fierce do you have and how long is the barrel? Wondering how yours is coming in so light. Course your scope could be a bit lighter than my vortex viper pst genII.
I could get my fierce to ~8.5# by putting the vortex HD LH from the Kimber on it.

two months out from Dall sheep backpack hunt.....need to make a final decision on rifle.

Rifle 1 - 6-3/4# Tikka .300 win mag Swarovski z5 3-18 BRH 24" barrel no brake

Rifle 2 - 8.0# fierce 300rum leupy vx6hd 3-18 fire dot 26"barrel braked

Both shoot exceptionally well although the tikka is a little harder to shoot 500yards due to weight and the stock on fierce is definitely more comfortable.

What would you take?
Fierce for me !

I think what matters most is you are in great shape long before a hunt like this. Taking the rifle you feel most confident with is one thing, but being in great shape, and wearing best quality, lighter boots that don't wear you down is another. Most new clothes are light weight material to begin with, unlike the old days. A comfortable rifle sling goes a long way too, JMO.
