Refinished stock... stripped the crappy 30 year old chipped poly coat, sanded, stained old school way with Alkanet oil and a million and a half coats of finishing oil comprised of Boiled Linseed Oil, Carnuba Wax, Turpentine, and Venetian Turpentine. One final top coat of diluted TruOil for durability.
And a better pic of the final appearance of bolt stop modification. End of lever is now flush with back of action.

RCC pulled through on getting my brass done and I should have it in hand later this week to finish load work up.

I gave up on the RCC brass for now. Way too soft and was blowing primers at loads that the Norma and Hornady brass did fine with.
Ended up with one heck of a load

I have a cow tag for the first rifle season here in AZ. Season opens Friday, 10/4. My 338 Sherman is going hunting with Hornady 230 ELD-X @ 2875. Can't wait!

I worked up a new load for my 338 Sherman with 285 ELD-m's and chose RL-16 and RWS 270 brass bc I wanted a temp stabile powder for use across wide temp swings down here in Texas. I gave up some in velocity but accuracy and an ES of 7 gave me what I wanted.
The Hornady 285 gr ELD-M clocked at an ave velocity of 2533 with an ES of 7 using RL-16. This load yields 4060 ft•lbs at the muzzle and remains above 1600 fps out to 1000 yds and still delivers over 1600 ft•lbs of energy!

Very nice looking rifle, I really like the woodwork on this gun. Curious about who did the gunsmith work for you? I've had trouble finding a gunsmith who will work on Ruger 77s for me. Either they don't like working on them, or they are not tooled up to work on them. Also I have been using MinWax antique oil finish on my rifle stocks, they come out looking incredible and the finish is easy to do. There's a You Tube video on the technique to apply the finish. Essentially it starts out with applying a liberal coat of MinWax then wet sanding it with 300 paper, then 400 and then 600 grit paper. The finish is extremely durable, when the application is done I give it a couple of light coats of flat automotive clear. The attachment is of a Marlin 1895 that I did a couple of years ago. You've got a really nice looking rifle, in a good cartridge and done with some great gunsmithing work.
