Has the 6.5prc peaked in interested?

Although the prospects of the PRC are interesting, I have thus far been disappointed with the results. Hornady professed close to 3100 fps with 140 grain bullets and I get 2900 fps with the same recipe. I am at 2780 fps with the 6.5 CM. Should be more juice for the powder burned.

interesting - I am at 3000 fps with the factory precision hunter (143gr). No doubt I could push it to 3100 with some load development.

Interesting. I will try that route but expected more performance from roll your owns with out having to stretch the pressure curve.

Mine is a recent purchase and I wanted to take it on a road trip antelope hunting and then after mule deer and elk. Didnt have time to work up loads, so grabbed 4 boxes of the precision hunter stuff praying it was sub moa. One box down and it is sub 1/2 moa - holds it pretty close out to 500. I am a berger bullet fan, so plan on working up some loads after I get through hunting season.

Most of my 6.5 barrels will pick up 50-100FPS once broken in at 100-200 rounds. Also, a particular barrel/chamber can vary as much a 1grain of powder or more, and maintain safe pressures, to duplicate velocities for a given load.
 
More on what greyfox said, when comparing factory and handload velocities you don't know what capacity the factory case is. I have a 5 grain difference on case weights in one batch of 250 Hornady 6.5 creed cases. That alone could cause higher or lower velocities, charge weight and pressure signs. My rule of thumb is if I hit book velocities with book charges with no pressure signs stop! If I hit it with lower charge and no pressure signs stop!if I don't hit it with book charges and I have no pressure signs I change brass first, then primers and work up again.
