I had my friend send over the Federal Fusion 130gn 270win he recovered from his son's elk, shot ideally thru the heart crossing the chest at 300 yards. He has been very successful with it but I don't like the expansion. I think the bonding makes up for it in toughness.

Dang, not sure how this works...
Here are a few I have gotten back ranging from 17 to 200 yards all recovered from elk. The ABs were 180gr and fired from the ol' "ouch six" with a spicey dose of 4350. The monos are 200gr barnes LRX fired from a 300rum, these typically are rare to recover, the "hey it penciled through one" actually hit the bull fully sideways as in keyhole, wish I had photos of the clipped ribs...not really sure about that one, the tip is folded over. Stick or limb perhaps...had to shoot through some brush for him, but it sure did pile him up...I figure this will stir things a bit, and I certainly welcome any input on this as well...this and a couple other anomalies with barnes has prompted me to try Hammer Bullets I like the mono's ability to penetrate for the less than ideal shots. In my stomping grounds a fella can walk a LOT of miles and end up with just one shot so stacking the deck makes sense. The Accubonds worked exceptionally with the 30-06, even with hard quartering shots all the way through a full grub bag and into the vitals. Just wasn't comfortable with meat loss once I stepped into the RUM

Here's a couple. First we've got 2 250gr hornady interlock from my 338wm. Was running them hard at 2750fps from a 22in tikka. These 2 rounds were shot at 45yds and 25yds at a 8ft brown bear. Both shots were full broadside and passed entirely through both shoulders anchoring the bear. Recovered weights are 145gr and 153gr. All the performance you could ask for.

Next, we've got a 100gr Barnes ttsx fired from my 2506 at about 3200fps. Impact was a whitetail deer frontal shot at 90yds. Clipped the collar bone going in and was recovered in the area of the intestines. Shed 3 of 4 petals, found one if them back. Held onto about 80gr.

Recovered from Elk @ 185 yards
Hornady 200 ELDX at 2833fps
300 Win Mag and Blaser Rifle
These were recovered on the opposite side of the Elk just under the skin. One was a lung shot the second was a heart shot. Just not sure which order, but I believe Lung was first.

The ELD-X are killing, but they sure seem fractious. About every image I see, results in low retained mass.

I suspect that much like the Berger's, JLK's, etc, the expansion characteristics are directly related to the range which th shot was taken. A bullet that fractures into pieces at 185 yards can very well be a classic mushroom at 800-1000 yards. As we've seen, both forms of expansion can be equally effective at putting the game on the ground. We ask a lot of the bullets we use. IMO, understanding the physics of your bullet at the various ranges is a key to success in determining shot placement.

I would agree with the ELD-X being very soft. Took a couple caribou with a 143gr in my 260rem a couple years back. range was about 250yds and vel about 2750. one caribou shot twice with one bullet exiting, other caribou one shot and only fragments found. seems like they should hold together a little better, but the results speak for themselves.
