Remington 700 5R Muzzle Brake?

I too have a couple of Ross' 3-port muzzle brakes and yes they do work. As you noted they are excellently priced and works as advertised. However, there are more effective muzzle brakes designs out there that has better reduction of felt recoil and muzzle rise. IIRC, Ross and Nathan are friends/hunting buddies.

I guess it just depends how much the OP is willing to invest. So it ~$100 to thread the muzzle + the cost of the muzzle brake. I like the self-indexing option as I can move from one rifle to another with the same threading and safe clearance.

I just use a jam nut to move breaks around. Not as pretty but it works as well and is cheap. For a remmy 5r in 300wm the Ross breaks will work good. I had one on a 1st gen 5r for a while b4 I sold the gun

I am sure it will work, not with Ross' but with another brand with similar design.

I use a Harrell's Precision radial breaks mostly. Very effective if you leave about .187-.200 expansion chamber in front of the muzzle. I just installed a Harrell's Precision three port (per side) on a carbon fiber wound barrel for a customer. He is also reporting good recoil reduction and accuracy. The Harrell's breaks are rough and "in the white" but I contour them to fit the barrel diameter either straight or bottle shape. Never had a complaint. Thread pitch run from 1/2-28 to 5/8-32 depending on the barrel caliber. http://www.harrellsprec.com/

APA has been one of most popular muzzle break makers, the Lil Bastard I have used a lot with great success. I have Gen 1 and 2's.

It will take that 300 no problem, enough that its almost like shooting a 6.5 Grendel with no break

The obvious other question is do you intend to ever shoot a suppressor? If so SilencerCo's ASR Brake does a surprisingly good job.

If not the JE CUSTOM gets my vote, we run them on bolt rifles and AR-10's & AR-15's They are one of few brakes that actually negate muzzle rise, and in some testing have actually produced negative muzzle rise...

If you are looking for a custom tuning muzzle break I would look at the RAGE by UM Tactical.

You can custom tune the gas to fit your shooting style, meaning grip, positioning etc... only true customizable muzzle breaks.

I use them as well. I would take a hard look at those, a lot of 3 Gun guys are running that break now because of the muzzle rise aspect

"Hunting friendly" assume you are meaning quiet as possible for a break? If that is your goal but you want to shoot targets comfortably, then look for a break you can turn on and off. Savage utilizes this sort of break. I believe CP and Brock also provide on/off breaks. Turn break on for targets and turn it off for hunting. Never noticed the kick when shooting at game.

I concur, but this goes for without a brake as well.
I cant shoot muzzle brakes because my hearing was ruined while in the military and I have severe tinnitus! I found a gunsmith that makes a brake that sends the noise away from me and that solved the problem ! I wear custom ear plugs for targets and hunting
