Hello all,

Looking for some muzzle brake recommendations for my rem 700 5r 300 WM. I'd like this to be as "hunting friendly" as possible, being suitable for standing/prone hunting shots as well as prone shots when target practicing.

Thank you all in advance.

Ross schuler over on accurate shooter makes stainless brakes in 2 or 3 port brakes and turns the brake diameter to match your barrel for $38. You can't beat his breaks I've got several of them now

What's the difference between the number of ports? Different direction of pressure?

The number of ports and its size allows the amount of gas pressure to exit at the same time. Some ports are 90 degrees, slighltly angled, or combinations to direct the muzzle blast.

Here's MBM's muzzle brake comparison tests in .300 WM

In the last two videos, the following MBs were compared to 3, 4, and 5-port MBMs ...

1. APA's little and fat bastard brakes
2. Patriot Valley 4-port brakes
3. Area 419 4-port brakes
4. 5-port T3 and T4 terminator brakes

Here's a 2-piece 4-port beast I got for my .264 WM...

I too have a couple of Ross' 3-port muzzle brakes and yes they do work. As you noted they are excellently priced and works as advertised. However, there are more effective muzzle brakes designs out there that has better reduction of felt recoil and muzzle rise. IIRC, Ross and Nathan are friends/hunting buddies.

I guess it just depends how much the OP is willing to invest. So it ~$100 to thread the muzzle + the cost of the muzzle brake. I like the self-indexing option as I can move from one rifle to another with the same threading and safe clearance.

I have the area 419 sidewinder brake along with several of the grizzly gunworks brakes. All are very effective. I would consider an effective 4 port for a 300wm, but they certainly are not all equal
