124 gr hammer hunter & 6.5 SAUM

Wondering if anyone has any load info or general input on thus combination with an 8 twist barrel I am fetti g ready to start development. And any input would be greatly appreciated I have several powders to play wth. R26. H4350. H483 . H1000. Retumbo

I'm tagging in on this thread, I ordered some 124s for my 6.5 WSM and loads should be somewhat similar to a SAUM.

I am running them in my 1:8" 6.5SS over H1000. 3267fps is where accuracy is at. Had them up to 3340fps, but not as accurate. RL23 seemed to test well also.

Not exactly an answer to your question, but maybe the info is helpful:

I am running the 117gn Sledge Hammer in my .264Win Mag with a 26" barrel. Best accuracy is at 3360 fps, pretty much regardless of what powder I use. Best distance-to-lands is .020.

I've pushed them above 3500 fps with Vihtavouri N570 and IMR7828SSC, but accuracy suffered.

The sledge Hammer 117gn shoots better than the Barnes TSX 120gn in my rifle.



Just testing powder charge vs velocity, so these are only 2-shot groups.

I'm at 59gr RL26, 215 primers and ADG brass around 3260. Still working on seating depth but if these shoot like other Hammers I've tried it shouldn't be too hard to find an accurate depth.

I just got a call from a customer working on the same combo. They are at 61.5g rl26 @ 3350 fps. No pressure signs so going to move up a bit more and see if they can find some pressure. He is going to keep me posted.

I have loaded 121 Hammer Bullets, 47.0 gr. of H4350, in my 260 AI. These are grouping .250-.300 off the bench. My 260AI is a 1-8 twist. Looking forward to using these on mule deer, wt and pronghorn. MTG

I'll be interested in the 6.5 PRC results you get. My 1 in 8 twist didn't do that great with the 131 like we already talked about . For 1 in 7.5 or so. The 124 shoots great in three 6.5 Creeds and the PRC.. I just haven't settled on a powder yet in the PRC. So far H1000 has been best but many to try still. The Barnes 127 LRX I can not get to shoot good out of any of them for some reason but is fine by me. I've already found my go to bullet. Thanks
