MagnetoSpeed V3 Vs Labradar

What one would you buy

I own both, sort of. I loaned out my V3 but can't remember who I loaned it to because it was loaned out so long ago.
I use the Labradar the majority of my time at the range when I am doing precision work. It functions well and is easy to use. I do have problems with other shooters affecting it from time to time but that is one of the few problems with it and there are rarely other shooters at my range. One thing to watch out for though, is the Labradar is susceptible to wind. I have had to quit a few times when I noticed gust rocking the unit on the shooting bench. I have read online that others have had their unit break and not function after being tipped over in the wind. For what they cost, I try to avoid impact testing mine in that manner.

What one do you have or what one have you used? What chronograph would you buy, and if you have one would you buy the other one instead of the one you have?
I have both and use them the lab is for range days when doing load ladder tests and on range day when helping people but for quick work just to get the vel I go to magnetospeed

This is me as well. I generally look for a velocity node, confirm sd and es, and make a few slight tweaks if needed. Seems to get me on a good velocity stabile node and accuracy usually follows that node.

I have had both plus the chrony and the labradar is by far the best unit ! You need to follow instructions to use it correctly ! I didn't like attaching things to my barrel but the results were satisfactory !

Has anyone compared or know of a documented comparison between the LabRadar and Magnetospeed V3 velocity readings? Does one consistently produce higher/lower velocity readings than the other?
I have owned the V3 for about 2 years now. It has worked flawlessly for me. I have used it with and without muzzle brakes and no issues either way. I do get slight impact shift when I use it. I wish I owned both to compare the two for myself. It would be nice to chronograph every shot.

Serveral youtube vids on this. I knew several people who both. They prefer the labradar due to set up and ease of use but the lab has it's own issues but there aren't that many. Most people say the FPS is similar enough to be good enough to get on targets and stay there.

IF a person is all that concerned with the magnetospeed attachment to the barrel then get a Wiser or similar based product that attaches to the stock and all the POI shift crap goes away. I have had massive shifts so I run the wiser and do not worry about it anymore.

On another note a mag is 380 retail plus 100 for the attachment so 480 vs 550 for the lab. I use the sporter 170 plus 100, so 270 vs 550.

It boils down to what your budget is a what you do with it. The data is nearly the same in all the cases I've seen. I upload the info from my mag onto my phone and it works well for tracking my load development.

I have the magneto-speed I works fine for me, I pop 3 shoots down the pipe take it off and sight in. All this is done after I work up my load since does not matter what the speed is prior to working up a load that works. Once the load groups where I need it then the velocity is an issue for working up bullet drop calculations.

Got to shoot a lot of 3-5 shot velocity confirmations to make up difference in cost. I guess if you shooting tournaments and making a living at it the deviation might be more critical, but for me that proves out with actual vertical high & low differences at the range.

I have several Chronies, LabRadar, and a magneto-speed. I no longer use a standard Chrony, ever. I use the magneto when I want a quick number because I can slap it on and stick it out the shop window for a number BUT it has absolutely changed group size and POI on almost every gun I have used it on so I will not use it while working a load. The LabRadar wins overall.

How bad does a brake effect the magnetospeed? I didn't find anything in half of the directions that I browsed while setting it up for first time so I just took my brake off.
The muzzle brake on my 300 WM has not effect on my Magnetospeed, which I love.
I have never used a Labradar.
I will admit that the setup of the Magneto speed can be a hassle, changing rifles with different barrel thicknesses. I conquered this by keeping notes in the carrying case that record the combinations of spacers that I use on each rifle. I also used a silver paint pen to uniquely number each of the spacers.

I bought the Magnetospeed because it was a definite improvement over the skyscreen type units. Had the Labradar been on the market, I would have gotten that. Soon.
I did manage to break the bayonet on my V3 by tightening the strap too much. It tends to jar loose between shots. Annoying.

I do like the V3. It does the job it supposed to do. The Labradar is just a better mousetrap.
