Muzzle Brakes and more

"recoil" on an AR15 is virtually non existent to begin with, so to claim their brake reduces it is kind of a joke. A .308 is not bruiser either... it's like they are claiming they tamed the mighty 6.5 Creed. Most legit companies compare using something like a RUM or .338 which are known punishers and most will put brakes on them to make them more comfortable to shoot more than a couple shots, and more importantly to be able to spot your shots.

So after a bit of asking around, reading in the forum and ponder, I decided I was gonna order a brake from MBM. I still have a few questions, so I sent an email as there is no posted phone number. Crickets....
I know they are popular, but I'm thinking I need to look at others. The MBM website looks vacant. There is a section for "in the works", that mentions estimated completion dates of a year ago.

I want a self timing, slim, non-radial brake. This is for a hunting rig, 7RM of course, and it will ride on a heavy sporter that is .700 at the muzzle, so 9/16-24 TPI. Recommendations?

Thank you in advance fellas

Wedgy why are you being so mean? Those using a brake on a 223 are usually shooting 3-gun and other rapid fire competitions, so they can stay on target. What does it serve to insult them because they are not using a magnum. Everyone doesn't have the same requirements as you. Be polite and respect others.

Justme2, sorry if I come across as mean, probably more sarcasm if you read it correctly. We are NOT looking at brakes for 3 gun unless they are shooting 7mm RM as the OP stated.

Guess I missread your post, sorry. You mentioned 223, so I assumed you were changing subjects from the7mm RUM. I don't own a 223 or any of the light centerfires if you were wondering.

Na, he wasn't being mean, just stating that the purpose of this thread is specifically for reducing recoil/spotting hits from a 7mm magnum, where as the brake he was talking about is more aimed, as you said, at 3 gun where small 223's or possibly 308's are used, which are a different animal, so not really relevant to the subject at hand, and saying it reduces the recoil of a 223 50% is somewhat comical......ha ha

Its not about comfort. My pachmayr decelerator pad works well for that. Its about spotting my hits and just over-all taming the muzzle. I share your dislike of the increased report, but like all things in life, ya gotta pay something to get something, lessen yer a democrat...
Spotting the hits ? A 7 mag isn't a varmint cartridge,so you'll still be knocked off target. However I was shooting 120gr Vmax at Prairie dogs in MT and I saw them explode. So bullet weight is a big factor .

As a follow through after the trigger has broke I try to spot my own hits, if I can I know I had things lined up right. If really on my game can spot trace through my scope. This is with some heavy hitters like my 16.5 lbs .375 Snipetac, I can usually call my own hits before a spotter does. My 9'ish lb .338 RUM the same. My .300 RUM is a little harder as I have no brake on it.

Anyone try a Hypertap against other big-names in daddy cartridge's? They look cool if nothing else... ;)

Link didn't work.
Try this one.

I have a Crosstac mk109 I love it!
not sure if they have a .284 model out yet but they are well worth looking into.
