Hornady American Gunner ammunition

I had same experience as you man the AG ammo shoots great in my creedmoor also. It seems like when I ran over chrono it was running around 2720 out of 26" tube with Ultra 9 and SDs was not very good. But I think for its intended purpose just for some trigger time it is fine ammo.

Great groups. I get the same results from my 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle but only with the more spendy Hornady 140 gr. ELD-M ammo. Even the ELD-X Precision Hunter is not quite as good.

I'll try some American Gunner to see what happens. It it's good I'll hope Hornady later on makes some in 6.5 PRC for my Browning X-Bolt hunting rifle. 6.5 PRC ammo is currently not easy to find.

I'd be curious what you find with velocity as well. I bought a can of 200rds and it shot great, but only registered around 2550 with my 22" Remington SPS Tactical, and 2600 with my 24" Bergara Ridge.

In the interest of deriving the most information possible, I have a couple of questions for you. Here is the specification section of the advertising segment for the ammunition you mention from the MidwayUSA.com website:

Under Muzzle velocity they state 2,690 fps. Did you happen to check this with a chronograph when you were shooting? I'm curious as to why they chose such a low velocity especially when Berger loads a similar bullet and same weight at 2,850 fps?

The obvious answer is 'that's where they discovered an accuracy node'. And there are probably economic reasons as well.

I've shot a lot of 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition and a ton of reloads, most in the velocity range of 2,850 fps and some higher with a couple approaching 3,000 fps from very long barrels. Now I'm curious as to what more you found out.

All ammo manufacturers will under load for liability reasons...just like crane companies who sell you a 10 t crane who's load limits are set at 15-20% under

For reason I like it when hornady makes superformance and regular ammo with the same bullet, usually one or the other will shoot acceptably.
At that velocity it should've shot better in my rifle but I never checked the mv of the American gunner ammo when I used it. Although it was my break in ammo so that might have some bearing on it

I got same speed as Remmy out my 26" Savage. Never paid attention to the SD's tho...

My 204 ruger does, I can't seem to make a better load than the factory ammo lol. Shoots amazing with it. My 308 never liked it. 1moa if I recall.

I love hearing about/seeing great results from budget rigs/ammo. I "built" a budget gun off a Ruger American Predator 6.5 CM and have barely $1200 in it complete with glass. Still have some fine tuning to do but am getting close to .5" groups with the same cheap Hornady ammo. Does my heart good to shoot close to or as good as my buddies' $4k-$5k rigs. They say I'm cheap. I say I'm smart!

Yeah, I also "built" my 6.5CM RAP with a Timmy trigger, Boyd's Classic laminated stock and flush cup sling swivels.
THEN I found while hunting and losing two rounds of ammo I could not get the bolt to lock while on d=safe or off safe! So beware of hunting with a RAP or any Ruger American.

So I sold everything and got a Browning X-Bolt Pro. Now if you know browning rifles of any age you know you can lock the bolt.

I know this is an old post but note this wasn't factory from Ruger.

NO Ruger American or RPR will lock the bolt when on safe AS-IS FROM THE FACTORY. The Timney trigger had not a thing to do with Ruger's design oversight. And of course Boyd's laminated stock did not either, natch. Plus I was using the lighter Ruger plastic P0$ when I was hunting.

I've been consistently shooting half minute with it. Bighorn Origin with Proof Barrel
