HEY FIRST TIME TO CHIME IN BUT HAVE BEEN SHOOTING A KLEIN GUNTHER 300 WEATHERBY FOR MANY YEARS, AND HAVE FOUND THAT IF YOU SHOOT WEATHERBY AMMO YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES EITHER WITH ACCURACY OR WITH KILLING POWER. I SHOOT 180 GRAIN WEATHERBY SOFT POINTS AND HAVE KILLED EVERY THING FRO WHITE TAILS TO BIG WILD HOGS TO ELK, ALSO TOOK A ULTRA-LITE MARK 5 TO AFRICA AND KILLED A ELAND, RED HARTEBEEST,BLUE WILDEBEEST ALL WITH BARNS 180 TTSX AND ALL AT BETWEEN 250 AND 350 1 SHOT KILLS NO CHASE!

I bought myself the Mark V 300 and my three sons 300 Weatherby and we've been hunting with them for the past 14 years. I use 208 gr. Eld Match bullets shooting to 1100 yards on steel. Very accurate loads with awesome killing power from 100-780 yrds (that being the farthest I have personally had a chance to shoot game at). Wouldn't trade my Weatherby for anything. Don't think my son's would either
I'm pretty sure they are all tens....only way Weatherby deviates is if it came from their custom shop as far as I know anyways!

The 300Wby I had for years seemed to always prefer 200gr bullets. It is a hammer with them too.

I'd start with the hornady precision hunter ammo. I reload but have used the 212eldx on 4 elk with good results
Still wouldn't hurt to check.

Do not load. I use Weatherby factory loads 180 grain Nosler Partition. Took a New Mexico elk, 125 yards with the loads. Took 2 shots. One above the front leg, the other in the neck as the bull was turning. Dropped it were it stood. The Nosler held together well a few fragments, good mushroom expansion. Target practice with 180 grain Remington corlok and Federals with Noslers. The Fed's had the better group of the 2. Still stick by Weathby loads as the best group.

I had my first 300 WBY built for sheep hunting (Alaska) in the early 70's. My guide told me to bring a belted 30 caliber. He was right! I have rarely hunted with anything smaller since then. I encourage you to consider reloading (although I have very limited knowledge of factory offerings and accept that there have been huge improvements in factory offerings). All of the gun gurus will opine about the "ultimate" long range caliber but the 300 WBY is and has been the standard I judge them by. Over 500 yards is where I usually draw the line under field conditions. Perfect for the 300 WBY. There has been nothing "new" regarding calibers/cartridges in (at least) the last half century. Just marketing noise and nonsense. Optics are a whole different story.

I also have a Japanese Weatherby MKV 300 Weatherby. Mine has a 24 inch barrel and per the Japan model manual (which you can PDF from weatherby) states 1 in 10 twist. It is one of the most accurate guns I have. I put mine in a mcmillian stock and I love it. I reload and this gun shoots a little slow and loves the 168 gr barnes. I tried 200 gr barnes but could not duplicate the accuracy. Great gun, good luck!

Congrats OP, your 300 BEE is a fine Example I'm sure not everyday anyone gets Giffted one that's Very special and speaks volumes of the Gifter and yourself . Don't know your budget but get a Very good scope for that Rifle ,next if you plan to hunt Elk you need Ammo, if cash is NP,buy a mixed box of factory ammo,Brand is important ,I'd suggest Weatherby factory , reason being your brass stays pretty much the same Quality ,& it can be traded or reloaded later ,bullet weights,150s,165s and if you want to try heavier that's fine to ,these are for practice and finding what your rifle likes, Remember the heaver the bullet equals more recoil . Forgot to say get your trigger weight checked , another way is to fine someone that you trust to reload for you,yeah I know it's not gonna be easy but it has it's pluses and could work out , lots to ponder & a 1,000 ways to look at it . Just for the record mine wasa Vangard 300 Bee , it's been the round to beat from 1947to the early 1990s ,and that's World Wide !!! Cheers!
