Replacement for Retumbo - 28 Nosler

I appreciate the advice. I was originally having an issue finding H1000 which is why I was planning to use Retumbo. That was a few months back. So now that I can get H1000 I will probably start there.

Has anyone tried H50BMG in the 28N? That powder is never out of stock.

H50BMG is discontinued

During several summer range sessions, I had some pressure spikes with retumbo in my 7rm. Didn't like that. Went to H1000 to find a load I could shoot all year. Haven't had any problems since
I'm in N Tx and it's a hot mofo in the summer. Maybe the heat wouldn't affect you, in cooler climate.

i am going to start working up loads for my custom 28 Nosler and was planning on using Retumbo. Since there appears to be a Retumbo shortage, what would you guys recommend as a replacement powder. Here's some info about my gun / load:

Rem 700 with a 26" Benchmark 1-8.5
KRG Stock with 300 RUM Mags
Bertram Brass
175 ELDX

I will be Elk hunting at 4000 - 7000 ft

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Burns speed chart should put you in the ball park. One of the top custom gunsmiths here in TX runs R33 in the loads he develops for his custom 28 Noslers.

H4350 is always a great standby

I was, and am, a Retumbo fan and during the time it became hard to find I tried some IMR 7828 and was pleasantly surprised. I was able to work up a load that shot every bit as fast and accurately as Retumbo. That was in my custom .300 Win. Mag but I'm guessing you'd have good results with the Nosler as well. My number one elk hunting Bro swears by 7828 in his .300 RUM. I've seen him shoot literal bug hole groups with that rifle on the range and one shot drops on elk to 750. As stated by other folks, you can't go wrong with H 1000 either but I've seen 7828 on the shelves lately in 1 and 8 lb. cans.

I would try some h1000 as the burning rates are similar !

I'm doing the same thing
8133 looks very promising
I have a Piercision Rifle 28 Nosler that seems to like that powder.
Single digit S-D
And very good groups
616 yds first 2 shots on the plate were low, held for the wind correction and next 2 were bullseye

Too bad to hear of the retumbo shortage, I was going to give that powder a try if the ones I currently have to work with don't satisfy...by that same logic perhaps they'd work in retumbos place for you. Currently have and can easily find more of h-1000, imr 8133, 7977, 7828, 4955, rl 25. The US 869 ball powder might serve you well with heavy bullets. The new ramshot LRT powder is purported to have a burn rate around or a bit slower than retumbo, and is a ball powder capable of significantly greater charge weights in equal space.

RE-33 and N570 have been the best performers in the 28N. 33 is dirty and temp sensitive so if it were me I'll roll N570. It's hard to come by unfortunately
