Hornady has strange recommendations

I read this whole thread and wonder do we actually expect a bullet to smash through a shoulder or even both shoulders at whatever distances or go through lungs with same bullet terminal performance with same accuracy? Bullet design is either soft tissue or tough enough to smash through. That is what I like about the bullets we can choose, "pick your poison" comes to mind when selecting a bullet.

Kind of reminds me of bowhunters "debating" mechanical versus fixed broadheads versus light and heavy mass/spine arrows, woodland versus plains, ground versus tree, etc.

Your weapon and your style, how you hunt and your accuracy potential will likely dictate what bullet or even what arrow setup you will use for the game you are hunting.

Which is why I still use the 200 AB in my 300WM after first bull I shot through front shoulder at 190 yds, lodged under hide on back shoulder beautifully expanded at about 80% weight retention after going through both shoulders of a decent size bull. Only crap I got was both shoulders had to be pared out due to damage. Accurate enough to the distances I shoot (600) and does the job. I tried the 200 ELD-X and shot well enough but didn't shoot any better so why change from a PROVEN performer.

Then again I didn't see anyone state the obvious 6.5CM will take out a Grizz at distances up to a mile

Ok, after the huge thread about the ELD-X on grizzly, I started looking around and asking questions. Hornady DOES NOT reccomend the .30 cal ELD-X for big bears. Then it gets stranger....They DO NOT reccomend the 230gr .338 for brownies. But strangest of all, they DO reccomend the 225gr SST Superformance for "Dangerous Endevers".

That is why God made the 416 Remington. For big and dangerous stuff. You can never be underguned for big bears.

I think the ELDX would work great at 400-500 yds or farther. I used an 06' with the 178 get ELDX and it blew up on a 200 lb ish Muley @ 200 yds when it nicked the shoulder bone. Only found the jacket which turned inside out to the boattail. Poked a doe thru the lungs @30 yds and a piece of jacket fragment cut thru the diaphragm and got the guts. The main portion exited behind the other shoulder. Great shooting bullet ,just too soft for my taste up close.

Last year I shot 3 whitetail does. One at exactly 300 yds.quartering away. One at 419 yds. and one at 442 yds. Both broadside . All DRT. I didn't hit bone on any. I didn't do a necropsy but that last 2 were lunger's. All with the infamous 6.5 Creed in a Tikka T3 Lite. All with 143 eldx with my handload. When It was muley buck time I just find it hard to cheat on my 300 RUM buddy. Short shot at 288 yds.. Polaxed with a Berger 185 VLD.
This year I have a limited quota buck tag . Whitetail or Muley.
A doe muley license and 3 doe antelope tags. Think I'm going to use my 6.5 PRC on the does this year. Guess what I'll be using for the buck ... ? Yep.

I love ELD-x Bullets, just like stated in your other post, have taken moose from 50-660 yards with no issues, all DRT. close range shots were neck and spine shots. I have never skinned a Brown bear but it is hard to imagine their hide being thicker than a moose, more hair and muscle mass i suppose.

That's low man ! I shoot others so no fear. This year all doe's will be introduced to my 6.5 PRC and a Hammer. My go to for most everything else is my 300 RUM or 7 mag.
