Caliber advice

I am looking for advice on caliber for a custom build.
Max range: 600yds
Game: Medium to large sized game
Rifle Specs.: Barrel length less than 26 inches (I want the rifle to be easy to maneuver and carry but hit like a hammer)

I was originally thinking 300 WM but with a barrel less than 26 in I don't think it would be a good choice. What about 300 WSM?

Yep. A 300 WSM would be a good choice in my opinion.

I think the 7mm SAUM would be a decent choice. I'm a 7mm kinda guy. Adg is making brass for it. The 300 wsm is a good choice as well. Always wanted one of those. For a non magnum I'm going to throw the 284 win out there. With the right powder you could launch 180s around 2700 fps in a shorter barrel. I have a friend that's launching 180s in a 26in over 2800 fps.

Tikka in 300 WSM. Barrels are 24" and some change. You can ream the throat to fit the heavies if you need to. Then it's just a matter of swapping in a long action bolt stop and magazine and voila, a well balanced rifle with plenty of juice for your intended purpose.

Well for 600 and under and to hit like a truck why not a .338 prc or 33 nosler.
Bigger bore let's you get away with a shorter tube.

.308, 20" barrel, very lite and will thump just about everything.

I'm a 30 cal guy, ANY 30 cal magnum will do what you want, even with a 24" tube.........but a 338WM with a 24" tube will hit like the Hammer of Thor.
I also choose heavy for calibre bullets, so for a 338, 225-250gr bullets is what I would recommend.
I have a 338WM (3 separate rifles actually) and use 225gr Accubonds and 250gr Partitions in all 3.
Never had a failure to kill ANY animal with those bullets.

I have both chamberings with 24" barrels. At 600 yards, pick one and load it with Berger 215 and you're golden. The .300 WM remains my go to chambering from antelope to elk size game up to 1K yards.

I thought about it, but decided to pass this time! LOL

I'm all about the 338s. I'd go 33 Nosler, 330 Dakota, or any of the similar 338s (338/375 Ruger is a great wildcat). They do really well in short barrels and you'd be good to go well beyond 600 yards if you wanted down the road.
