Accurate magpro, ramshot magnum, anyone use these?

Temp stability is what causes me to stay away from this line of powders. Double based powders often lead to higher velocities, but comes at the expense of stability. That's why they don't get talked about much.

Wolf, you might want to take another look at these powders. There's not many more stable than Magnum. I also use their Hunter and Big Game with no signs whatsoever of temp instability. "Just sayin'".....as the youngsters say.

I'll take another look at them. Having great options is always a win in my book.

Try to find Retumbo. You won't. There is a reason why it is non-existent. I've been using MagPro and some older stock of Vit550 & 560 until Retumbo returns. As for clean burning, that is a good thing but if you are just sighting in onezytwozy's or a few shooter getting ready for hunting, and not running 100s out the tube, does it matter that much?

My hunting rig gets one or two out the tube with my same proven handloads just prior to the hunt to recheck zero then back in the safe or hard case until the event. It isn't used for comp or targeetpractice having spent oodles of cash for a precision tool.

Just saying, clean and consistant burn rate often go hand in hand which is a good thing when I am shooting 25 to 150 rounds in a session.

Sorry to hear of your struggles to find retumbo. My local gun store has it at the moment. It is on my "I might try that if my current powders disappoint" list.

That's because most likely up your way (Canada) there are far fewer shooters that know about it. Too bad its a store in CA or I would try to buy it.

Magnum and Magpro both produce high velocity and good accuracy in my 270Win, 7RM and 300WM. Magpro is a little faster and produces higher velocity in the 270. Many people (I believe including including Barsness) claim very good temperature stability for Magnum but have not personally tested. These ball powders meter great.

All that said I'm mostly using IMR4451, H4350, H1000, RL23 and RL26 in those cartridges but measure each load with an RCBS ChargeMaster 1500 (great piece of equipment IMO) which basically precludes building loads at the range dropping charges.

I use Hunter for 150 and 165 grain bullets from a Browning X bolt with a 26 inch barrel.
Easily get 3,470 for 150 and 3,407 for 165. Used 75 grain for 150 and 77 for 165. Adding more powder gained 2 feet. No pressure issues at all. I have cans of it. Their manual is free. Looks and acts very similar to Superformance.

What cartridge??

Was just perusing some load data online and found the numbers for these powders in .300 win mag quite compelling. No one seems to talk about them though. Anyone using these? What can you tell me, pros, cons, any reason they aren't popular?
Hey, Calvin45, how are things "north of the border"? I, like you, am looking at some powders not frequently mentioned. As soon as my Hammers arrive(probably tomorrow!), I will be testing them first with MagPro in 6.5Prc, 7mm Rem. Mag., and maybe even in 300 Win. Mag. I do have H1000 and most of the slower RL series of bang juice but no RL26 and while I like the 26 alot, I am tired of waiting! I have used the Nosler book data because they post the approximate case fill % for each cartridge case, caliber, and bullet weight in their lineup. I also have data from Bob at Berger for my 6.5 and by cross-referencing the 2, I see that MagPro will achieve a very nearly full case when all is said and done. Of course, as always, work up to pressure carefully (I'm not that good looking but it's the only face I have!)! I can work up to pressure and check FPS here at home but it will be Monday before I'll be able check accuracy, ES, and SD. Will post what I can then. MTGEEZER

Hi, thanks for the input, look forward to seeing results. As far as things "north of the border" it's a terrible climate for us gun owners politically, but not as bad as many think. As always great hunting and lots of room (I've been drawn for antlerless elk and mule deer, will buy my whitetail tag as usual, and might go boar hunting - yes, those vermin are a problem up here too, not good but it is more hunting so that's the bright side).

I'm also intrigued by the new ramshot lrt, very slow but very dense (I too have been called slow and dense but it's not a compliment if it ain't about powder). I'm happy to have never been able to try rl26 in the first place, and probably won't seek to. Sounds like an exercise in frustration.

Started this conversation partly because I realized I often don't even think about powders that aren't imr, alliant, or Hodgdon.

You can always find RSM.. It shoots lights out with my 270 and the 170 berger . Since H-1000 is so hard to find I use it in my 300 WIn mag.. Pretty sure it is the same powder Berger is using in there 215 hybrid ammo.. It has exact same velocity as stated on their box.. I hunt in cold and Hot territory and haven't had any trouble with temp stability..
I got away from using R 26 because it was very unstable when hot... R-33 WAS THE WORST IN HOT TEMP..
Give RAM SHOT MAGNUM a try, you won't be disappointed.
