i need some stock advice. I purchased a used rifle a while back with a McMillan Classic edge stock. I love the way the rifle shoots and how light it is (6# 9 oz) .300 Winchester. I don't like how low the comb is. Even with low mounts I have to lift my cheek off the comb to get a good site picture.

So I want to re-stock it but with what design?

Looking at the McMillan website it looks like the Sporter or maybe the McMillan Hunter might work?

I'd rather not add a cheek riser as it would just add more weight.

Suggestions?

Is weight a concern? Chassis will probably give the most modulation.
(Not sure it that word is used right)

I use the Bradley cheek rest on a few of my rifles/ it is light weight and adjustable.

Kydex cheek piece is light and inexpensive. $50ish.

A padded cheek rest like the Tactical Works is soft, warm in the winter, and very adjustable. Weighs 6oz. $40ish.

I actually prefer the padded cheek rest on a heavy recoiling rifle to an adjustable stock. My .300RUM has an adjustable Game Warden, and it can actually leave a sore cheek bone after a few rounds of shooting it prone.

I don't think you will gain anything with the Sporter. The McMillan Hunter would give you a higher comb but I don't like how skinny the forend is on them. I would suggest the BDL style.

If McMillan would put a Remington Classic forend on the McMillan Hunter stock, It would be a perfect fit for my taste.

Mcmillan Game Hunter edge fill.

Or out a Bradley adjustable cheek rest on your existing stock.

That would be the McMillan Rem Hunter...I think.
