Just wondering if any one is shooting one yet and what their thoughts are on them. Also wondering if a savage 112 mag target action could be used to build one. Thanks

I have a reamer for the .33 being cut by Dave Manson right now which will be throated for the 266 Flatlines. I pick up my Bartlein barrel this weekend to drop off to GAP. I am hoping brass is available by the time I get the reamer.

I'll post back in once its shooting.

Yes, you could use a Savage 112 Magnum to build one. I already have a 338/408 Improved, but if I were starting from scratch I'd probably go with one of the XC variants. The CT improved variants offer more performance potential, but it comes at a cost and may not be worth it for most people.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of rebarreling my 112 to one of them. But had a gunsmith tell me he didn't recommend it with the savage action

The gunsmith may have been thinking of a standard Savage 110 action. The 112 Magnum action is beefed up in a few critical locations and it uses a special bolt head with 9/16" lugs. I'd probably go with a shouldered barrel instead of using a barrel nut, but that's the only extra precaution I'd take.

I've done some pretty ridiculous things to Savage target actions over the years, including shooting a steady diet of 350gr SMKs at 3050 fps in a .375 wildcat. I'm not going to say that it was safe, only that it worked for me. The newer 112 Magnum action is arguably stronger than what I played with so I'd be pretty comfortable building either the 33 or 37XC on one.

I'm looking at one of these two calibers for my desert tech. Still going back and forth. It seems like ballistically, things are kinda "close" performance wise. The 37 has higher BC bullets, the 33 can push it's lighter bullets faster so it's very similar in regards to actual dope or LR performance. Having heavier 375 cal bullets will likely have bigger splash for spotting impacts, the 33 will likely have less recoil and pills will be generally less expensive.
Like I said, I'm trying to decide which one to do...
