Try British Columbia or Alberta. We have all those bases covered ... maybe not so much the political thing in British Columbia but at least they leave you alone. Gun rights, hunting, open spaces, safe etc.
Is it true you can't carry a sidearm in the woods there?

I hear people talk about Montana, South Dakota, Idaho, Wyomong. Places along our Northern Border are Beautiful. To me the biggest problem there is SUB ZERO winter temps. Living in the South, Hurricanes and Tornados. Nice home one day trash the next. Here in Nevada we have a rare Earthquake. A little shake and it's over. The Sierra's provide a buffer from major Pacific Storms
Temps in my are generally range between 10 and an occasional 100 degrees. I heard that in the Early 2000's that Reno had a 3 foot snow fall one day. The Northern areas of Nevada areas get snow, rain and sunshine. If you want to live in the Forest, there are areas that the homes are interspread amoung tall pines just out of Reno. The people outside Reno and Vegas thank me for my Service. I lived on CA for 65 years and hardly a soul ever thanked me for my service while there. There's no High Humidity here, no Hurricanes, no Tornados, minimal Earthquakes. I've lived in GA, KY, TN, MD, LA. Korea and Vietnam while in the Service plus stationed at Fort Ord and on TDY to Camp Roberts and HLMR in Central CA. I've been around the US and so far, Nevada beats them all. Great big Game hunting. Trout fishing from Stocked Rainbows to monster Browns in the Truckee River and the 30+ pound Lahoten Cutthroat from Pyramid Lake. That's around an hour from here. There is also a lake chock full of Walleye just off I-80. Like skiing or Snowboarding, some of the finest Ski Slopes are within an hour or less. Right now I can see Mt. Rose Ski area with snow still falling yesterday on the Slopes. Name anywhere that's available the doesn't freeze solid in winter or sweat you silly with temp and humidity runnin in the high 90's. I've not regretted moving here in any way. I was in Montana Trout Fishing in 2005 and in the Gunships there, they literally hated people from California. Californian sold properties in CA and the overpaid for land in Montana driving their property taxes sky high. Besides making it nearly impossible for many to even think about buying. So my entry to where to go is where I'm now from. On one part of my family, I had a Great Uncle that listed in the Indio City Museum that says he, David Elgin, was the first white child born in Indio, CA.
Popgun...
GA you say... we're you lucky enough to be at good ole Ft. Benning.... lovely summers down there. Makes ya yearn for more gnats and sand :)

I moved to WY nearly 24 years ago and have loved it the whole time... More since I retired and don't have to drive on the crappy winter roads! Other than Jackson and maybe Laramie, you're pretty much expected to carry a gun, no permit for concealed necessary as a citizen of the state. Lots of small rural towns within commuting distance of "cities" to get groceries. Hunting is dwindling a bit as the ranches are bought out by corporations, but lots of public land still available. Take up crossbow hunting, and you'll feel like you've got the forest to yourself.
My .02 anyway.
Good luck and enjoy your retirement!

Okay, I will just own this fact that I am a 4th gen Californian, but all generations have been Reagan style conservatives and are from rural CA. With that said, I just retired from Law enforcement and am looking for a safe semi rural place to raise my family. Gun rights are paramount, good big game hunting, and the ability to be left alone. I mind my own business, and don't ever want to turn the place i move to into California. Every state I look at, it seems they are not far from becoming blue. I lived in NV and would not even consider it now since the libs have a super majority there, with Reno and Vegas controlling the state.
Well come up up to Montana. Moved here from the other communist state, Oregon in 2012. Always thought I would live out my life there as a 7th Gen. Oregonion but with thes going the same direction as yours I would be a felon in no time. Montana and Idaho would be your best states and Montana has no sales tax.

I have a nice 3 bedroom house on 10 1/2 acres with certified irrigation rights in EASTERN WASHINGTON for sale. 48x60 shop. Good hunting and fishing near by. Great place for kids.

Yup--I attended UCD in the late 70s and early 80s as both an undergrad and electrical engineering grad student. It's changed a lot. I can't even stand to visit the place today (and not just because of the anti-gun brainwashing environment--there's plenty of other dogma being spread to diseased minds there).

BTW, UCD employs a very active and well-known anti-gun professor who propagates all the gun-grabbers' brainwashing in his "work" (posing as a respected PhD. academic sort). I don't recall his name. I keep getting beg-a-grams from the UCD Alumni Assoc. and other fund raising groups. I won't send the enemy a dime! I've never even set foot on the Hillsdale College campus but it's the kind of institution that I can voluntarily support.

The Great Perfesser and his anti-gun project gets an occasional write-up in The Sacramento Bee. I have complained to him and his ilk in The Bee about some of their "facts" that weren't facts, but they don't care.

do not consider Massachusetts. This just happened in Suffolk county God bless the Liberals
Charges To Be Declined
Charges for which the Default is to Decline Prosecuting (unless supervisor permission is obtained).

  • Trespassing
  • Shoplifting (including offenses that are essentially shoplifting but charged as larceny)
  • Larceny under $250
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Disturbing the peace
  • Receiving stolen property
  • Minor driving offenses, including operating with a suspend or revoked license
  • Breaking and entering — where it is into a vacant property or where it is for the purpose of sleeping or seeking refuge from the cold and there is no actual damage to property
  • Wanton or malicious destruction of property
  • Threats – excluding domestic violence
  • Minor in possession of alcohol
  • Drug possession
  • Drug possession with intent to distribute
  • A stand alone resisting arrest charge, i.e. cases where a person is charged with resisting arrest and that is the only charge
  • A resisting arrest charge combined with only charges that all fall under the list of charges to decline to prosecute, e.g. resisting arrest charge combined only with a trespassing charge
Instead of prosecuting, these cases should be (1) outright dismissed prior to arraignment or (2) where appropriate, diverted and treated as a civil infraction for which community service is satisfactory, restitution is satisfactory or engagement with appropriate community-based no-cost programming, job training or schooling is satisfactory. In the exceptional circumstances where prosecution of one of these charges is warranted, the line DA must first seek permission from his or her supervisor. If necessary, arraignment will be continued to allow for consultation with supervisor. Thus, there will be an avenue for prosecuting these misdemeanors when necessary but it will be appropriately overseen by experienced prosecutors.

Note: this is essentially already happening for drug possession cases in Roxbury and Dorchester District Court.

In California Moonbeam Jerry Brown signed a law to reduce a lot of felonies to misdemeanors. Now you can break into a home and steal guns and it will be charged as a misdemeanor if your lawyer can argue the value is less than about $900. In San Francisco they can sell heroin right in front of cops without being hassled.

I lived in GA for 2 years and those summers....SMH. I was fixin to die dead out there, so hot and humid.

What happens in California happens to the rest of the country. I grew up in a red county that is rural. Everyone I knew was conservative and hunted. Like I said, it was Reagan Country. Then the state became more liberal in the urban areas. The population of Los Angeles, Sacramento and the Bay area changed our politics. Just like Portland controls Oregon, Vegas controls NV, Boise will control Idaho and a list of others around the country. I did not see it as Californians changing the California I grew up in. If you know history, everyone moved to California after WW2 and it continued for 50 years. They came from other places. It was rare to see families from California. Now everyone blames the Californians for changing their state. My county is still red but it is becoming purple because all the rock climbers from urban areas are moving here. They learned about this place from the internet. Now I see liberal greenies everywhere and a few rednecks. It has changed. But is it really California or just years of liberal media, liberal educators, the internet, etc? I view it more as city people out numbering us rural people. Hell, I heard a statistic that said 60% of millennials view socialism as better than capitalism. I need to live where the mule deer roam, I enjoy four seasons, I hate heat and humidity, and most of all, I don't play well with liberals. It's been that way all my life and I'm a native Californian. I was thinking Montana but foresee Bozeman and Missoula turning that state Blue. I was in Missoula this last summer and it was more liberal than most towns in CA, because I think they have something to prove. It's insane. Wyoming may be in my future.
I'm a native 3rd generation Ca. And this is my exact experience along with most Ca. I know and associate with. The majority of Californians other than LA, and Bay Area are conservative, grew up farming, ranching and hunting/fishing. I live in between SF and Sacramento, farm country growing up hunting and fishing. Like stated above since I was a kid for the last 50+ years I have seen people flocking in from other states and completely changed our sleepy little chucks of heaven to overcrowded leftist cities. All these people were not born here they came from other states. We used to feel the way you in other states feel now. It happened to us first.
