Rifle build price estimate

Here is that last invoice of a gun I had built. If you're supplying the barrel and it's a Proof Carbon you can subtract the price of the barrel, fluting, and cerakote. So total for all the work and shipping (subtracting the above numbers) is 625.

I do not believe that I will benefit from a custom action, in fact, I probably won't even have it blueprinted but just squared the face when installing the barrel. H-S stock as I can get a discount on them as well as bottom metal. 243, as I have a Remington LTR in 223 and 308 with Swarovski's and a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle DM in 7mm-08. So I don't have anything in that 243 or 25 cal range. Don't want to go bigger as I am not a fan of recoil. Besides I do far more coyote hunting than rifle hunting deer as our gun season is only 9 days. I bow hunt 40+ days a year however.

If you hand load.....
What about something like a .250AI or .257AI? Or 6SLR? 6x47L? 6XC? .243AI?
Dare I say 6CM? 25CM?
What about a great 6.5mm that fills the gap too? 6.5x47L, 6.5SLR, 6.5x55, .260AI?

If you don't hand load, what about.....can't believe I am saying this....6CM or 6.5CM?

Not that most of these will do anything a .243 Win won't do. Just something a bit different, and probably a bit "cooler". Except the 6.5CM....you would need to wear a man bun for that. Way less cool.

I don't reload, and I'm not sure the ballistics of the 6.5 Creedmoor would make any difference over the 7mm-08 that I already have. 243 provides a good filler between the 223 and 7mm-08 in my opinion. But I may wait and spend my money in get into reloading first.

Be careful. Reloading is an addiction. That chase for .1" better accuracy, or 50fps more will consume you and haunt your dreams....and it isn't any cheaper than factory loads for most people. In fact, I bet it makes you spend even more.....

I just thank God there is no "RA" (reloaders anonymous). That is for quitters.

Again, nothing wrong with the tried and true .243Win.

I have read numerous threads on reloading equipment needs and videos. However, it always gets sidetracked into extremes that further complicate it. That then leaves me in the....screw it mentality as it's too complicated. I'd love to reload to shoot bullets that aren't available in factory form. My rifles are all great shooting or I don't keep them and I don't shoot long range compared to most everyone on this forum. I just stalk close and kill stuff, primarily with my bow. LOL

Then why bother with a custom build. If all you need is a 1 MOA rifle there are lots of great products off the shelf for $1000-$1200 or less that can exceed 1 MOA, and I would bet most of them are available in 243 WIN. Then, you don't have to wait months to get your rifle.

I don't want 1 MOA rifles, and I want some cool factor. Spiral fluted barrel or carbon barrel and fluted bolt.

My Remington LTR's will shoot well under 1" at 100 yards and my Mountain Rifle will shoot 1" or better everyday. Could they be better with reloading....yep, for sure.

I want to try to build a functional and cool rifle (to my standards) and I haven't found one that I like completely and want to see if I can build the "perfect" rifle cheaper than I can buy the closest one.
