What Rain Gear for Oregon elk hunting?

I usually wear my Kuiu Yukon pants and jacket when its really wet. I've hit it several times with heavy wet snow where the tall willows will get laid over. When we've ridden trails through them on horseback, I've never gotten wet with my Kuiu. I have gotten wet with some of my Sitka stuff. I have some new Stormfront gear that I'm waiting for the right conditions to see how well it compares to my Kuiu junk...

I grew up on the west side. Hunted Rosie's a couple of times in high school because football conflicted with going to the dry side. Yuck there ain't nothing like rain forest wet. Have fun. I wore rubberized canvas, same stuff loggers and commercial fisherman wear. Grunards.

I just watched a youtube review of the Kuiu Yukon Versus a First Lite SEAK jackets. The guy in the video said that there was problem with the rubber cuff design on the Yukon Jacket. He said it collected water and would pour it down the inside of the sleeve if you lifted your hands above parallel to the ground causing the inside of the jacket sleeve to soak up the water and stay wet. That's the first negative thing I've heard about the Yukon jacket. Have any of you guys that use the Yukon experienced this or is it just a problem with the guy's shower /bathtub testing?

Also id be interested to hear for anyone who has used the First Lite SEAK. I've never used any First Lite gear nor do I know anyone who does. It looks to be in the ballpark of KUIU quality and price so it might be a good option.

GLOVES:

Often when wearing rain gear when hunting or just backpacking in the fall the rain is so cold you need neoprene gloves to keep your hands warm.

The wrists of the gloves need to be long enough to fit inside the rain parka cuffs. AND the parka sleeves must have enough extra length to easily cover the wrist area when reaching, say, for a handhold when climbing up a steep area. That's one reason I always buy Tall size GTX hunting parkas. (I'm 5' 10") The other reason is to keep my butt well covered.

I only wear GTX gloves when it's below 32 F. and in wet snow at the most but not in rain B/C they do eventually wet thru. IMO GTX gloves need a fairly water resistant or waterproof palm and finger area. Good GTX ski gloves often have this.

My hunting partner and I have Yukon Rain Jackets and Yukon Rain Pants. We have had them for 3 hunting seasons. No problems. I like my Yukon rain gear so much,I bought a 2nd set. I live on the west side so we get a lot of rain. As far as the Cascade elk season it is in the middle of Oct. You might be fine hunting in a t-shirt.

I've had my shirt cuffs get a little damp under the neoprene cuffs of the Yukon jacket... but only because I've spent the entire day in a downpour wearing it... there is literally not a single jacket/pant on the market that will keep you dry if you move in it. None. I spent 10 years fishing the bering sea and Oregon coast in the worst weather conditions possible. I spent the better part of $10k on every kind of gear doing so, and the kuiu Yukon beats them all hands down.

I looked ate the Kuiu parka. Looks well designed and is of high quality from all reports.
BUT... I don't like either of the camo choices. I like more browns, on the order of Realtree Advantage, for example.

I have had Cabelas gor-Tex mt050 leak, rivers west seems to make me sweat more than anything, Sitka seems to wick up the sleeves (downpour jacket), but the one that has never failed me is kuiu Yukon. I love them so much that I bought a second set so that I have both Camo patterns. Like others on here have said, they actually breathe and will keep the rain out! They are worth every penny!

I really appreciate your experienced response, I have Sitka and Kuiu gear and I have been impressed with their products but I haven't tied anything for the rain and I think I'll just trust my gut and go with the Kuiu Yukon. Of all the reviews I've seen i have only come across that one negative comment about the sleeves wicking water up the cuff.

I agree with Alex. I've commercial fished now for 26 years. From the Oregon coast, to the Bering Sea. Kuiu raingear has been the best. I've owned a lot of brands of gear through the years. Loved my sitka cloudburst but it snags bad. Customer service told me too bad, so I bought a set of the kuiu gear. I ended up with the Chugach jacket and pants. It's simply the best I've used.
