Trigger upgrade for hunting?

+1 vote for Trigger Tech in a hunting trigger. The Primary model is perfect for hunting, and the beauty of the TTs are they FEEL even lighter than the scale reads. I told everyone my custom that came with one was set around 2 - 2 1/4 lbs without measuring. When we measured, it was 3 1/4! It goes down to 1 1/2 lbs, like Timney, unless you go up the Diamond model, which rivals the Jewell and Elftman. If you want a pull measured in ounces, the cheapest way out is a Timney Calvin Elite. If you want one all the way down to 2 ounces, go Elftman. They are 20% off now, too! But you'll still spend $250 at 20% off. I'm ordering a Trigger Tech Diamond as we speak while I can get one for $227 shipped. It will go on a 1000yd muzzle loader being built by Bayou. I can't have any flinch causing me to pull off target. With ballistics better than a 460 Wby Mag, this will be a MUST. But FYI, I just put a Timney Calvin Elite on a long range hunting 338 Edge... Nothing against Jewell. They have worked very well for a LONG time.

Your cheapest way out is to hone the factory job, and next would probably be a Rifle Basix. Timney and TT Primary are equal in price and the pull weight range they cover. I still prefer the TT, but I have Timneys I don't plan on replacing...most notably in my Barrett. Just depends on what YOU want!

any reason you choose the flat over the curved trigger? I have been wanting to try a flat trigger for some time now

I started running the Geisselle SD-3G a few years back in my ARs and just got used to the flatty's. When I had a riffle built and it came time to select a Trigger I wanted a TT Diamond and all the pro curve and curved were sold out so I rolled the dice on the Flat shoe and never looked back. I have three bolt guns with the TT Flat shoes now with pull weights between 1.5lbs down to 6oz and I love them.

Is the answer always to change a trigger when your not happy with it??

I recently got a Rem 700 SFV so same trigger I believe?
Manual trigger adjustment via the screw wasn't really doing it for me & couldn't really get it down where I wanted it.
Took it to my smith & for $70AU he made it into a consistent crisp 2lb pull as measured by my wheeler pull gauge.
Happy as larry for probably 2/3rd the price on a Timney her!

My buddy adjusted his MarkX trigger down to around 4-4.5 lbs is our best guess. reasonably clean break and not much overtravel. His rifle is a hunter so he's going to play with it at it's current setting. I've read some have adjusted their MarkX's down to 2.5lbs.

Wouldn't recommend running a Remington X-Mark Pro trigger. The metal in them is junk! They wear extremely rapidly! I've replaced ALL of mine, mostly with Timney triggers. I have dissected several of the X-Marks and found VERY soft metal in many areas that WILL wear quickly...

For proper adjustment of Remington's X-Mark Pro trigger, refer to Ragged Edge's post;

Just make sure you take that x-mark out to an anvil and "adjust" it with an 8-pound sledge. That way nobody else will get into trouble with it.

My current rifle is coming with the factory X-Mark trigger from Remington but from what I've read about them it sounds like I'll want to upgrade it. So while I wait for my barrel and receiver to show up I figured I'd find a trigger to install. The rifle is being built off a brand new left handed Remington 700 receiver.

I have a timney in my Remington 700. It dropped right in. I have it adjusted to 2.25lbs. It can go lighter but I hunt with gloves and not extreme distances so I wanted a lighter trigger than 3lbs but still fairly safe with gloves. The thing is crisp and breaks like glass. Zero creep!

I use a Timney elite trigger and love it. Not too expensive, no creep and very light and crisp

That's good to hear. I just put my first jewel in a rifle and that hade a little nervous.

You can use a little Ronson lighter fluid from time to time to keep it clean but no oil of any kind.

Put a Timmy on my former 6.5 CM Ruger American Predator and it was great.

My Browning X-Bolt Pro has such good triggerI have no plans to replace it.

I was able to get my Ruger American Predator trigger down to 2.25 pounds and it shoots great.

Over seven pages and not one mention of the Jard triggers. I've never been around one but at the time I got my 204 X bolt they were the only one who made replacement triggers for that Browning piece.

I have Jards in a couple of 98 actions....they're not the Jewell I'm used to but not bad at all and you can set them light....mine are at 14 & 16 ounces.
