Trigger upgrade for hunting?

L!I've worked with several different factory rifle triggers( Browning, Winchester, Savage Remington Tikka) & some aftermarket triggers. I haven't tried a trigger tech, and from what I understand they have fixed noticable creep, so what I am about to say might not apply to them. What I have noticed about all of the triggers factory & after market is this: from a pull weight range of about 1-3/4 lbs to 2-3/4lbs I notice creep alot more for some reason. I have several triggers set at 1-1/2lbs or less and a couple set at 3lbs, I don't perceive any creep at those pull weights. I know creep is still there but I absolutely don't notice it at all and if I don't notice it, then it's not a disadvantage for me mentally when making shots. All of this may only apply to me and my perception of pull weights. But when shooting a rifle for precision, your perception of things matter more than what another person would perceive with the same equipment for example: perceived recoil, perceived balance of the rifle, how you perceive your intended target through your optic, etc... The more that you hunt and shoot with different set ups & equipment the more you will find out what suits you the best. Hope this helps you out.

I totally agree. I didn't know it was going to be so light . If you have gloves on its very dangerous. I'm looking for a 2 to 3.5 pd. Spring for the Tika. All my rifles are 3 to 4 pounds but that one. I couldn't get it below 4.5 to 5 lbs. with factory trigger . I agree . I think 2 pd. Is too light for hunting unless you have a lot of time to set up for a shot. But that's an unknown when hunting .

I have tried most of them , my absolute favorite is JEWELL TRIGGERS . No matter how many times the others have been polished or worked on , to me none feel like an Arnold Jewell trigger , The only one I have not tried of those called out is the Trigger Tech , I must also say I only know 2 other people alive I would allow to use one of my weapons . For a Savage action Rifle Basik is my choice only because Jewell does not make triggers for Savage weapons. I hunt with Glomitt type gloves , triggers are set less than a pound , just my preference , but I either dry fire or shoot almost everyday for 50+ years

Put a Timmy on my former 6.5 CM Ruger American Predator and it was great.
My Browning X-Bolt Pro has such good triggerI have no plans to replace it.

My buddy adjusted his MarkX trigger down to around 4-4.5 lbs is our best guess. reasonably clean break and not much overtravel. His rifle is a hunter so he's going to play with it at it's current setting. I've read some have adjusted their MarkX's down to 2.5lbs.

Thanks a lot you guys.... I just purchased a Trigger Tech Primary for my mod. 700. I've had the Timney on it for well over 10 yrs.. I read up on them. I liked that they are 440 stainless parts sealed in 7075 aluminum . Frictionless and external adjustment. 2.5 to 4 lbs. Is perfect. Wasn't sure on flat or curved shoe. Went with curved since its all I've used in last 50 yrs.. I should of shopped around. I saw it on Optics Planet for $28 cheaper. Oh well. Feel better about dealing directly from them.

I have several of the newer Remington's and have been able to adjust the factory triggers to a truly acceptable pull. 2.25 lbs is what I use on my hunting rifles. Some of the target and bench guns are quite a bit lighter.
In the past, if I was replacing or up grading for extreme precision and accuracy, I used Timney.
Most aftermarket precision manufacturers are very good. I would recommend that you pick one and continue using that brand for later upgrades. That way you are familiar with them, their installation and adjustments.

I hunt deer with my AR10. It's a .308 and very accurate (has a Bartlein barrel).

Join the club. I think my old Timney is old tech compared to the Trigger Tech. Last year when I tried to lighten the pull on my Timney , I went to loosen the locking nut and it just snapped off with the adjusting screw... must of been rusted that I didn't see. Thought oh well. Stuck at 3.5 to 3.0 pds.. I think it was 3.5 ??? All this talk about triggers inspired me and bought a TT like I said. The old Timney I had was all steel. Prone to rust but had been a great and reliable trigger. I've been trying to think how long I've had it. More like 15 yrs. not 10.
