I have an older model 300wby vanguard that I've customized and wanting to get a new barrel soon. The load I've worked up and am use to is 150grain Nosler Accubond that travels in the realm of 3,400fps. I've been doing a lot of research and reading other posts in here, but only find recommendations for larger bullets. I'm wanting to go with 26-28" barrel, but clueless as to what twist. Can you guys school me on the differences in twist and barrel length please? Your help and advice is greatly appreciated!

I am familiar with the Vanguards. It's a good action but a little on the small size for heavy Long Range bullets in the mag. Your mag box is 3.50". I agree that a 215 Berger is a good choice for the 300 Wby round but the case is 2.85 inches long and the 215 is 1.598" meaning that you will have to bury 1" of bullet into your case. If you rechamber to 30 Nosler, slightly larger in case capacity with a case length 2.556, you will be able to put .9" of the bullet out with .6 " in. The 300 Blazer is 2.528 with the same capacity as the Wby. With that rifle cal combo, I would recommend a 10 twist

Shooting 150grain accubonds

the other option for mag length is an Aics bottom metal getting you 3.7"
Or 300prc for shorter 300mag capacity
If ur staying with 150s then just go with a 10twist and ur done

I went with a 9 twist because I'm closer to sea level, and I would have went with an 8 if they had them. More twist isn't a bad thing. I'm running a 300wm. Your options are about endless in this case capacity range.

I went with 27" and 1:9" for my .30 LARA (right with 220 ELD-X) which is basically a .300 Jarrett Improved but I can still shoot the .300 WBTY (left with 180 SP).
