Hello all

I've been building up my hunting rifle and have been told by multiple people that adding a vibration dampener to my barrel I would increase accuracy. Just wondering what everyone's opinion is here? Myth or fact??? Anyone who does believe in them have a link to where they purchased theirs? Thanks!

Limbsaver still makes one I think. Just a rubber doughnut that slips on your rifle barrel you can move back and forth to change barrel harmonics. There are machined barrel tuners you can buy for about $150. You have to provide them with the diameter of your barrel so they fit right. These are the same idea as the BOSS system that Browning used at one time. The idea for all of these is that you tune your barrel to some preferred ammo instead of tuning your ammo to your gun whether it be hand loading or trying different ammo brands and bullet weights.

Reloading is my preferred method too. I had a Browning with a BOSS one time and it worked but not near as good as working up loads did.

in reality you should e do BOTH.
LOAD DEVELOPMENT AND TUNE the bbl
the problem is that the temp and pressure of the say you develop
your load is seldom the same the next day, or hunt day or match day.
this is where a tuner can save the day, tine for todays conditions

I think they are more of a gimmick, and while some people do achieve decent results on the day they apply and tune them, later, the results always seemed to change. As a part of the group of shooters who constantly strove for ultimate precision and tiny groups, I cannot remember seeing anyone using them on their BR, varmint, PRS, F-class etc rifles. YMMV

How are you going to "tine" for today's conditions on a "hunt day"??
You are pretty much hunting on a hunt day and your gun better be "tined"!
Completely unnecessary device on a hunting gun.

very common in br where legal.
i think in 22 rf br also
again it is a tune to the conditions device, not a set and leave alone part.
prs is NOT SMALL GROUPS.

MAYBE, ( i do not hunt) but do you ever check your zero while in the field ?
if off..tune pretty simple. but in real life it you are on a hunt and the conditions are diff than load development day you are in the same place.

I tried them on a few rifles. All improved. Some significantly. Don't remember them not working later any more than a load changes from day to day. They work if your barrel is light up to medium light. Just move it 1/16" to 1/8" at a time. If it does not get two close together move it.
