6.5 Grendel Decision

I have gun ADD. I like the AR platforms, but come to realize I like them in the sub caliber category, i.e. .223, .300BO, 6.8, 6.5...

I have a high end AR10 that I really cant shoot well. I have it at a local gun shop and the owner said that she'll trade for a custom glock and a nice 6.5 grendal (she has to order the grendel). I already have a long range .223 AR and a nice hog/deer .300BO AR.

What would be a good 6.5 grendal recommendation for a do all type rifle? Looking for the balance between sleek, somewhat light, and long range precision (500-600 yards on steel).

As you described, I would say a 20" 5R rifled 1:8 twist barrel, 15" handguard, flat-top receiver (optics ready), Magpul PRS type stock would all be good things to have on a LR precision rifle. But I would look into having one built by a company like Rainier Arms. They can help you pick out all the right parts, and will assemble it for a small fee (maybe free, if buying the whole gun from them). Give the guys over there a call, and they can help. Their parts are all top-tier quality, and their barrels are VERY accurate, too. And if you're wanting a precision LR AR platform rifle, you don't want to buy an off-the-shelf cookie-cutter rifle.

i finished my grendel right after christmas. i'd go with an 18 or 20 inch 5r barrel from ballistic advantage or rainier. get you a nice drop in trigger and a quality rail and you'll have a good gun for deer hunting and plinking.

heard good stuff about the howa mini action in grendel. i was thinking it would be a good first deer rifle for my boys. accurate, low recoil and doesnt break the bank.

Sorry not for sale. Lol
I did donate a identical AR to the local safari club with a vortex scope. They sell raffle tickets and use all proceeds to send a Purple Heart recipient to a deer hunt at legends ranch in Michigan. Just wish they could set it up to sell tickets online. But they have no website and my face is a no go for that stuff.
I just sent out my mini action to twisted to get barrel cut down to 16" threaded for brake or can. Heavy fluted barrel and action. He's removing as much weight as possible and I have a swfa ultra light 2-10 going on it. 9 ounces. Both will be launching 99gr hammer hunters. I think that case size is great with 100gr Bullets.

Had a Howa Mini in Grendel come through the shop for threading. Very nice pkg. It was not the heavy barrel. Only complaint was location of magazine release. Very easy to bump.

How's mini is 1lbs lighter same length barrel as the rugs and very close in price. I like the Ruger but the mini is much better bang for the buck in my book. Unless down the road you want to build off the action.
The ruger already comes with a 22" semi-heavy 5/8x24 threaded barrel and uses AR mags. That's 2 things I find more appealing about the RAP version over the Howa. Personal opinion.

The grendel really sings with a longer barrel. I had an accurate saber defence but ditched it because the velocity was to low. For longer poking i would stay around 20 plus on length or the energy suffers.

Mud you sir are correct. Both have good and bad. For most the Ruger is prob the better option. For me I'm looking for a super light rig for my father to carry while walking and will be used for under 300 yards more like 80-100 most of the time. So I am cutting it up to lose some more weight. I do wish it used ar mags for sure as I'm swimming in those. If you are going to the range to make small groups no doubt the rpr will be better for that.
