Alliant R22 in a .308 Win

Anyone have any experience with Reloader 22 in .308 Winchester? I ask because I have ended up with about 8-10 lbs thru estate package deals.
Alliant lists loads for 243W and 260R, both use 308 cases. Also listed are loads for '06 based rounds - 270, 280, '06.
I'm thinking of using the 260R load data reduced by 5% or so, and working up 1/10 of a grain at a time. Hoping to develop good 175 gr load for 300lb hog medicine at 50-200 yds.

Any and all guidance/suggestions welcome.

nope, never looked at it for 308 win; probably need 120% fill capacity to get 2700fps in a 308 case. using faster powders for the small 308 win case.

RL22 works well in magnum cartridges though.

4320 is already compressed in a 308 with a 208 and it's quite a bit quicker than rl22. I have used rl22 in a 30-06 with 180 and heavier, but I've gone back to 4350 as it has about the right case fill and produces better accuracy. I use a fair amount of rl22, but I use it in a 300win mag...

That would be a waste of powder. Way to slow a burn rate. I've found that using powders that are much to slow for the cartridge they're in results in excessive barrel fouling (doesn't burn clean) and filthier cases too as the pressure to properly obturate and seal the chamber is not fully realized. My experience with this was using h-50bmg in a 300 win mag. Like you, I got it cheap and wanted to use it. Accuracy was actually very good, but it only drove 208 hornadys to 2600 or so with over 80 grains heavily compressed. Horrible recoil and blast for 30-06 performance. Also, you mention how the 243 and 260 use the same case...that doesn't matter really. It's not about case capacity alone, it's much more about the ratio of case capacity to bore diameter.

I have never used RL22 before, I don't shoot any of the magnums. And sometimes I squeak when i walk because I'm so cheap.
I agree about ratio of case capacity to bore, but if you look, RL22 is used in 270W, 280R, and 30-06. Again, same basic case. Powder quantity is about same relationship as others across the spread of calibers.

Just a thought and do appreciate the feedback from all.

I love it in my 270. 22 inch barrel, 140 grain hornady btsp, 3050 fps. That was in winter in Saskatchewan. Come summer time the load was definitely too hot.
