I've been using a bipod to develop loads and decided to buy a Caldwell Rock Benchrest Front Rifle Rest to improve accuracy when developing loads.

What rear bag would you recommend for developing loads shooting off a bench with the Caldwell Rock Front Benchrest?

Do you know if the Protektor bag you linked is tall enough to use with the Caldwell BR Rock rifle rest?

I'll be using it mostly for bolt action rifles.

Not quite tall enough by itself for my application. I have a block of wood (same dimensions as the bottom of rear bag) that I wrapped in sandpaper that supports the protektor rear bag.

Are you using the Caldwell Rock Bench Rest front rest?
It has a rest height of 6 to 10.25 inches.

Not using the Caldwell. My front rest starts out at @ 6.5 inches and adjusts from there. I also use a Protektor front owl-ear bag on the front rest platform.

I bought the Caldwell Rock Combo. The rear bag that is in the combo is too short for any rifle I own. I have to put something under it to raise it up. I wish they had one that was taller.

I also use this bag and it makes the rifle very stable. You can adjust the height by placing books, boards or anything solid underneath the rest.

I'm planning on buying a Caldwell Rock Benchrest cast iron rest. They cost only $99 shipped and have good reviews.
I'm surprised by the multitude of rear bags available.... many cost more than $100.

This will be my first mechanical front rest and I'm trying to find the right rear bag (and height) recommendation to fit the front rest.

I've never used a mechanical front rest and am hoping it will improve my load development accuracy over the bipod and squeeze bag I've been using.

My main long distance rifle has a GRS Bifrost stock with a rubber overloaded forend. I'm wondering how well (or how poorly) it will work with a front rest vs a bipod.

Thanks for your comments gents... please keep them coming.

They were offered with a free rear bag. I received mine Thursday from midway. Haven't tried it yet though and if it doesn't work will look for a different one but free is free.

I have been using a Protektor 14A for decades. It promotes good bench technique allowing the rifle to slide between the bunny ears... I have developed a series of flat "shims" to sit the bag on to change the height of the bag to fit different bench heights and rifle stocks...

Shoot straight

Leather bunny ear bag... will work for the rest or the bipod. It keeps the rifle a bit more consistently stable during recoil..
