Hello All- So I am currently looking to put together a new rifle in the 6.5 SS, and Am looking for any advice and assistance please. My initial thoughts are a Curtis Axiom, Brux #4 fluted at 24, stock a carbon fiber something/ composite, Trigger tech, and HS DBM.

That being said.... is anybody running this system? Per a conversation with Mr Sherman the 2.86 magwell COAL listed on the website will be a issue. I'm not a huge fan of the single stack ai/ aics system. For me personally I am well aware how the function, but they are a little noisy for my taste in a hunting rifle.

So what are some of the combinations in action/ DBM bottom metal that members have done well with for a long range hunting rifle that utilizes the case design in a short action?

Thanks Cory

I built mine using accurate mags, so I'm not limited with COAL issues.

FWIW my load is 147s .020 off the lands at 2.860.

Could look into the Curtis Customs bottom metal/clip. Can't remember but the length may be longer than the HS system. I was torn on what to go with as well. I hate a Mag that rattles. I'm just sticking with a BDL/ hinged floor plate with a Wyatt extended box.

I was torn on action/BM when I built my 338SS but after talking with my smith I just went KS ARMS long action @29oz. It weights 2oz more than a short action and is only 3/4 inch longer than the short so it was a no brainer. Now no COAL issues now and plenty of viability down road. I used there bottom metal similar to HS feeds like a dream no rattle.
You will really like the Trigger Tech mine is set at 1.75 and breaks like glass I actually like it better than my Calvin elite.

Talk with Rich Sherman but you could always do 6.5 SST a touch shorter almost same performance no COAL issues.

If building a light weight hunting rifle I wouldn't go dbm. Bdl, or a adl setup would even be more secure, no latch to pop open where your rounds can fall out. I do like the Curtis dbm set up with the Curtis flush mags. Ive had a few hunting rifles with dbm set ups and it just wasn't needed or utilized.
I like the Curtis bm, my accurate mags are pretty tight and don't rattle. The Curtis flush mags fit very tight and secure and will not rattle. Although the feed lips are thicker being machined aluminum and will not acomadate mag cartridges like the 6.5SS . Accurate mags will allow you to seat bullets to 2.980" which is plenty for the SS but rich may have more then one reamer so I would mention you want to use a dbm set up. I asked my smith to try and mill a Curtis flush mag out to fit the SS but he was not successful.

I have one 6.5SS already.
Rem 700SA w. PT&G bolt
26" 1:8" Bartlein #3b spiral fluted w. APA Micro Bastard brake
McMillan Game Scout
Timney CE
PT&G Oberndorf BDL and Wyatt's 2.990" extended box
Seekins alloy 20MOA Picatinny rail
Seekins alloy 34mm low rings
S&B PMII 5-25×56 DT

I am gathering parts for a second 6.5SS now.
Kelbly Atlas Tac or Lone Peak Razor TI (one of the only parts left to order)
26" 1:7.5" Proof Sendero Light (ordered)
Need to pick a brake (Hawkins or Area 419)
Manners PRS2 in Tac Moola (ordered)
Remington factory alloy BDL(in hand)
Wyatt's 2.990" extended box (in hand)
Timney Calvin Elite (in hand)
Seekins alloy 30mm medium rings (in hand)
Tangent Theta TT315M 3-15×50 MIL (in hand)
Might swap direction to a S&B PMII 5-20×50US

Thank you for all the replies so far!
I guess I should clarify the purpose: I am currently running a deviant, kreiger 5 flutted, manners eh-1, hs metal, trigger tech 2#. 6.5 x284. Atac f-1 4x16.
Love the rig and I have no problems pushing 140 vlds at 3125.
Basically I would like to duplicate the rifle in a short action and shave a pound. Off the rifle alone. It's right at 9.1#'s
Plus I need a new stick!

Lancetkenyon- Roger that. I'd like to give her a little more gas and stay in a short action platform. The card is twitching in my wallet. The bottom metal is my only ?

I did a creedmoor last year, and it shoots great in a savage short. I'm just not " loving " it. Hence the new project.

I bought the Wyatt's stagger feed with extended follower and the center feed that comes with it's own flat follower.

It's up to Clayton @ WTO to make one of the two work flawlessly on the 6.5 SS, haha!. It's on a Tuebor S/A with standard and mag bolts. It's a SwitchLug setup that has 6.5 SS, 7-08 and 6.5 CM, so I'll be changing barrels and BDL Wyatt boxes.
