Optics on a shotgun-anyone using them?

I have an 870, and was thinking about putting a red dot or similar on it. Not really interested in a scope for longer range (slug shooting), but something with no magnification for buckshot at under 40 yards.
Concerned about the recoil causing problems with the optics- Anyone using an Eotech or a red dot??

Thoughts, concerns, or suggestions???

I use a small red dot for Turkey hunting on an 870. No issues at all. Even have shot dove with it on.

I have an E O Tech on a Versa Max, 3.5" 00 Buck to bird shot. Absolutely love it! It will extend your range and make you a better shot. It puts the fun back into shotgunning. I use it for bird, turkey, and varmint hunting. I even use it when shooting trap. You will DESTROY the birds. Get you one!

I have a scope on a 223/20gauge combo and love it. The make scopes for shotguns. At that close of a range your probably better of with a red dot.

I have an E O Tech on a Versa Max, 3.5" 00 Buck to bird shot. Absolutely love it! It will extend your range and make you a better shot. It puts the fun back into shotgunning. I use it for bird, turkey, and varmint hunting. I even use it when shooting trap. You will DESTROY the birds. Get you one!

Which Eotech are you using? I have read that the ones with the AA batteries tend to blink out during recoil due to the batteries being parallel to the barrel (for easier understanding), but the ones with the smaller batteries (sideways), the inertia of the recoil does not affect them.
I have an Eotech 552 on my AR15, and love it- I have never had any problems, but recoil on the .223 and 12 gauge shotgun are apples and oranges. Don't want to spend $500 on an Eotech for the shotgun, and it not work with the shotgun.

Yes, I would prefer a red dot-better for "both eyes open" defense shooting. NOT interested in a scope at all.

I am running a Vortex SPARC on a Winchester SX3 for turkey. I typically use 3.5" mag and after 5 years of use, I have had zero issues. I have also tried the vortex razor and that held up just fine. I decided to move that one over to another platform.

Mine has the two AA batteries. Model 512. No problem handling Remington 3.5" 00 Buck for coyote or hog hunting. This has become my favorite gun since I mounted the E O.

I have a cheap BSA Shotgun scope on a Rem 870 Super Mag 3 1/2" and it has held up with no problems. It is a turkey gun and the choke I use shoots very tight. The reason for this is because where I hunt the birds do hang up and don't come in really close. I put the scope on for those that do come in close so I can have a more precise aim because at 15 yards and closer it shoots about like a slug. I just have to really pay attention and not creep up on the scope because this gun KICKS HARD but it is deadly on turkeys. I leave the scope set on 1.5 power for field of view.

Before I mounted a red dot on my 870 I had a Bushnell one by four shotgun scope on it. I stalked a bird for about 70 yards and I had to take a A shot from an awkward position. Ended up with a nasty scope bite, LOL. The red dot went on it the next day.
