I've heard both, but have no idea. Best to contact SAAMI for a guaranteed answer. I figured you can get it standardized, but still hold the specs as a patent that is proprietary? I could be wrong.

John Lazzaroni cartridges could be? I can't recall ever seeing anyone chambering his stuff but him, or custom rifles. Never seen any ammo or brass other than proprietary, too.

The 7mm 195 Berger has a better BC than the .30 cal 230... It has no BC competition until you get up to the .338 300 grain.

Uhhhh... the BC is a tad more than the 230... weighs 35 gr less... and is .024" less in diameter. When the .308 245 comes out, we got a new ball game

There may be times that is all he could get his hands on. That is why I do like having at least one of our rifles in 7.62x51, you can de-link M240 ammo. Not as accurate but better than the alternative, which is nothing.
Also, if he only carried a M16 variant then that could have been the case.
There was a short period of time many years back they stopped allowing us to use it, but that was out of ignorance and was met with hard opposition.

That M80CS 147 stuff is not ideal for the M24/M40, but for the 240B it's low-recoiling so you get better on-target accuracy, than with a heavy bullet like in the the M118 LR.

We used to load 147's (basically M80CS ball) for the M60 and 1919.

Bravo he was with 85E in Haditha in 2006 and in afganistan before that. They went in 4 man teams in Iraq one he said usually had the 50, one bolt 700 with schmidt and bender scope, Saw and M4. He said you didnt want to be seen walking around with with a bolt gun on your back.

I thought y'all were still running FMJ's in the 7.62x51... Learn something new everyday. I know the .300WM ammo uses a 220 SMK.

Standard has been a 175 grain SMK (M118LR) for as long as I've been doing this. There are others still in circulation, we just were issued a case to use for this past class. Which sucks because that means the students had to get two sets of data and shoot a different qual with that ammo (M118).
I haven't seen the 220 MatchKing ammo (mk248 mod1) in a while (years), all we have been getting is the 190 grainers (mk248 mod0).

Yep, you would be targeted just like we would target them. You don't want to stand out. Most insertions were probably via vehicle of sort when inside urban sprawl.

That sucks on the double-dope charts. That also sucks on the MOD 0 vs. MOD 1...

I have a good bit of LC 7.62x51 brass that I'm working on my own hand-tailored version of M118 LR for my 5R .308, that uses a Nosler 175 Custom Comp and Varget.
