Who loves their 257 wby magnums

I love mine, it's built on a trued 700 action 27" #4 shilen barrel, Jewell trigger, McMillan classic. I have a smoking 1/2moa 100 gr TTSX load and a 1/2 moa 115 hvld load both using RL-22 and fed 215s. Stuff dies right then when hit with the 115hvld.

I don't remember the exact speeds without looking at my data.

Here is a picture of it with a N.GA deer.

I've got a Weatherby Ultra light .257. It's definitely not the most accurate I own, but will come in around 1" at 100 yards with 77.1 grains of 7797 and a Barnes 100 grain TTSX. This load clocks at 3722 fps. I have taken three deer with this load and not one taken a single step after being hit. The closest shot was 184 yards and the longest was 416 yards. The amount of damage is incredible.

I always have to laugh at the size of deer down south. They look like the grinches dog when he straps horns on it. All horn.
I really wanna try the new hammers in my .257 very fast with a light bullet. Make it a laser. I've hit several deer at just over 500 with the 115 and it still does incredible damage. Shot a large pig at 680 and it leveled it. I've not shot it much lately but thinking the lighter hammer and setting it up for point blank range is gonna be what I use it for now

Mine has a 1-10.. wish it was 1-9...100 grain Barnes shoots like a laser, had less than stellar results with 110 accubond, and explosive results with 115 berger, I have also used the 115 BT from Nosler with good results, but a 90 grain Serria game king, and 80 grain Barnes TSX is just nasty out of my 257...and I like its speed..and inside 350 yards--it is point shoot and hit....

Well my 338-378 is shipping to gunsmith WBY recommended to turn this rifle into a 257 WBY Mag. Thru my research I learned that weatherby has only two action lengths Long 9 lug and standard 6 lug for 240 WBY mag and standard calibers. but they have 3 different bolt housings machined for different length cartridges from 257 up to 460. I ordered a in stock 26"finished Bartlein Rem Varmint contour 10"twist 5R .It will be a no turn neck and no factory ammo will be shot.Does anyone know how much adjustment range there is in Weatherby triggers ?

257 weatherby loaded with the 100 gr. Barnes ttsx have you harvested many deer with using that bullet if was DRT

I'm thinking about loading this bullet in my 25-06 with max speed my 25 is a weatherby wilderness that shoots lights out hoping this bullet will be DRT on white tails

I would try the hammers. I've shot Barnes and they have been less than ideal in my book. That had me staying away from monos. They worked great at short ranges while pushing them hard. The hammers seem to just be better all around. Can be driven hard without failure and still open up well at distance. Plus they are super easy to load for.

I had the same experience with Barnes Could not get them to group very well
After three hundred yards. I don't reload but a buddy of mine does and well he worked up a load and tried different bullets
The burger VLD 115 gave me the tightest groups. Very happy with those, I have taken many animals with them.

Berger are funny some can't get them to group because of the sensitivity to jump other can. I've never tried them in my .257 because of the tendency to fail at high speeds. It can happen to all Bullets except maybe the partion but I wasn't willing to risk trying them. May have been pleasantly surprised. Now I just load mostly hammers. Easy to load for and work.

Count me in as a 257 Roy fan. I have posted this before.

Dan and I had a custom reamer made to shoot the 115 Berger VLDs. .100" freebore, 1 1/2 degree throat angle and no turn .003" chamber neck clearance per side with Norma brass.

We had such good results with our first builds,
(28" #5 fluted SS Lilja 1 in 10 3 groove)
we each made a lighter version. Dan went wild lightening his Rem 700. #3 profile 1 in 10 Lilja 3 groove. Had barrel and bolt fluted. Had metal machined off action. Blind magazine and an McMillan edge stock, His weighed 6 lb 7 1/2 oz without Talley lightweight rings and 3.5-10 Leupold. It is his go to rifle for hunting for elk, deer and javelina.

I sold my lighter weight Rem 700 but kept the Ruger M77 tang safety in a McMillan hunter stock. Now on second barrel.

Tim, Allen, and Deason made 257s with our reamer and the 3 groove Liljas also with115 Bergers.

We have taken quite a few animals:
6 elk
25 coues wt
4 mule deer
2 antelope
2 javelina

The 115 VLDs often produce some spectacular DRTs. To me the best part is the flat trajectory and mild recoil. This year I shot a coues wt at 340 yds and didn't have to compensate for drop by twisting a turret or any holdover. POI at 100 was 1.9" which placed bullet 1" low at 340 yds.

There are few chamberings that offer such a flat trajectory. The others have more recoil as part of the package.
What do you achieve with that 1 1/2 degree throat angle on the reamer ?

Outside of custom, does anybody chamber a 257 WBY in 1:7-8 twist?

Thinking about rebarreling a Tikka with a Brux in 1:8, but am not sure that it's feasible.
