Oregon is not a gun friendly state. It is a Democratic state. You, as a private citizen, cannot sell any type of gun to another private citizen unless the buyer goes through a background check and the gun is verified not stolen. If you break this law, then Oregon provides you free room and board for the next 10 years.
Lots of private land, about 55% of Oregon is public land, either National forest or BLM. Hunting is not good though because all of the mountain land is choked with dead or dying trees from beetle infestations than in turn cause huge forest fires. All because President Clinton did away with logging on public lands, which cost most Oregonians their jobs. Hunting licenses go up about 30% a year because fish and game says people are stopping hunting and fishing. Wonder why? Oregon Fish and Game has one of the worst management records for any state with big game hunting. This is because guns and hunting are frowned upon in Oregon by the mass influx of liberal californians who despise the killing of innocent wild animals. They passed laws so that bear and cougar cannot be baited or hunted with hounds. So, bear and cougar have decimated what big game that did not starve due to the lack of forest management.
Oh and it takes 10 plus years to draw any sort of antelope tag that can be purchased over the counter in WY.
General success for any type or hunting in oregon is 10% and you pay through the nose for the privilege of failure. Unless you're native american, then the hunting is excellent. Because you don't have to even purchase a hunting license and have extended seasons that last well into the rut for Oregon's struggling mule deer population and then kill anything you want doe or huge rutting trophy buck. And you don't have to stop with that one, get some more if you want. When a regular hunter shows up in Eastern Oregon with his tag that took 5 years to draw, the native americans are on the side of the road trying to sell you elk meat from all of the bulls they killed two weeks before you got there.
Don't come here for the hunting. If you need to work that's another story. But I think a lot or Oregonians go to Idaho to hunt or used to. I've hear you guys have your own problems these days.
