The old 25-06 Remington and 270 Winchester shot flatter than 6.5 CM

I hate the Creedmoor. I wouldn't hate it, but it's shrouded in so much BS it's hard not to. In every article comparing it to 308, the 308 is stoked with 168 smk or 175 smk. Never a berger 185 or anything else new or modern. This skewed perspective marketing crap gets real old fast when people walk in the store where you work wanting the "cartridge of the future" or the "300 win killer". Those are direct quotes from multiple people. It's about like Glock marketing

I agree with this but that is why Glock wins with sales and why the 6.5cm is not going anywhere (like it or hate it). Hornady did what Remington should have with the 260.

reelhardmt I enjoy your logical knowledge and I agree some of the newer cartridges can't kill at super long ranges.
But that don't stop some folks and many are successful but no one ever talks about the elk that suffered all night long from a poor shot.
VTbluegrass you make valid points indeed.
reelhardmt are you a gunsmith in Montana?

Agree with Lance.....some of you guys are on a roll

Quick midway search ammo: 270 (52), 25-06 (25) 6.5x284 (8) and creedmoor (50). Plus hornady puts out the majority of options in all cartridges across the board, even hard to find. I have never seen hornady claim the creedmoor is the do all at any distance. It does keep a lot more guys shooting constantly though. I agree the 6.5 x284 is no slacker, but rifle availability and saami spec is the issue. Gunwerks even discussed this vs the prc.
Elk, well that just depends on what cartridge you are accurate with. Doesn't Kentucky have about 400 firearm permits per year? I guarantee that there are double that figure of elk killed in counties of wyoming on the openers with the 243. Hard to argue with experience and families that make it a generational thing killing with smaller diameter bullets.

Hardly in short supply!

I'm thinking about adding a 6mm CR to the stable. I have .22lr, .223, .270 and .30-06. Oh lets not forget the 30-30 1894. Seems to me, a non-dangerous game hunter, that the slight gap in my calibers would be well served by the 6mm.

It does look like you have a GAP where a .243/6mm should go. You should definitely fill it! LOL

Varmint shooters are the only ones that really benifit from flatter rounds.

I agree - my 25-06 is my go to coyote gun because imo it is the perfect combination of fast, flat, recoil and wind bucking. Its so freaking accurate tho, and I am confident in it, that I always have it with me no matter what game I am hunting. That's what happens when you shoot one of those inbetween calibers like a 243 or a 25-06 or 6.5 creedmoor, you shoot them more than your big magnums - there is a level of confidence and comfort that goes with that. It is easy to grab them for the elk or deer hunt and leave the big boys at home. That is what happens to me anyway..lol

A 25-06 is just as bad as the Creedmoor. I know cause I have both.
Take the 25-06 to the range and everybody is telling me how much better their 243 or 270 is. Take the Creedmoor to the range and everybody is telling me how much better their 260 or 308 is.
Personally I like the Creedmoor better, but have taken way more game with the 25-06.
This year I took a deer with each just to spread the mojo around. Both worked fine.

Haha - I bought my son a 6.5 creedmoor, then went and bought me a 260, just so I could tell him my 260 was better than his creedmoor!

Troublemaker you are

Remington comes out with good rounds then just abandons for seemingly no reason. Or just doesn't put any effort in to marketing it.

I went with the creedmoor just because I had/have no intention in loading for it and had mine built on an AR-10 platform so I'm be mag restricted for oal. If I had gone with a bolt and longer mag box no brainer 260 Remington

"The real gunsmith" hates CM because he bought the wrong reamer building a customers rifle and had to eat the cost of a rifle that he didn't test to see if factory ammo chambered.

Edit* This is speculation. I am, however, confident enough that this is a root of his issues with the cartridge to say it.

His video on the cartridge itself practically States it when you weed through the "old man yells at clouds" jargon and once he gets done being ****ed that Nosler is making money off the 28N when he never made it rich on his "wapiti express"

This forums CM hatred is just pitiful at this point. Everyone's just amped up to talk about it whenever they get the chance.

I like 25/06 a lot, it's a cool round. I've never owned a 270 and have no plans to, don't see a reason to do so and I guess I grew up in a Ford vs Dodge style family that hated 270 almost as much as dodge so I'm biased.
