Best part is you have no problem finding brass or loaded ammo since they are not proprietary at this point. You can find everything from Remington Core-Lokt to boutique exotic loaded ammo. Plenty of new and used rifles to chose from as well. No matter who goes out of bussiness someone will always be making brass for these and chambering rifles for these you can not say that about the 6.5CM or the 6.5 PRC.

I thought it was interesting since it is not too far removed from what I would normally say and there are some numbers in the article instead of asking everyone to get out their reloading manual and their ballistic software and doing the math totally on your own.

Obviously you can cook the books to get any numbers you want to make any point you want so this is not the end all be all for sure!

I am very biased when it comes to cartridges that brass is very difficult to get. Obviously the problem is not one of price point or that the cartridge has been obsolete for 100 years it is just a problem with only one company making the brass.

I would love to see the "Creedmoor Craze" die out! While in it's own right a fine cartridge it's not the do it all Hornady claims it to be!
Like I have said My 6.5 X 284 is Faster..Flatter..Just as Accurate! Top it off with uninformed buyers and pimple faced sales people at the box stores you have guys believing all their sales crap! And heading out under gunned!
Then you have the idiots who claim a friend of their neighbors cousin killed an Elk
at 1775 Yards with one...BS!!
At this point I wouldn't have a 6.5 CM in my safe if it was Free!
I don't follow the pack!! The Fish and Game in Kentucky got it right.. It is illegal to
hunt Elk in Ky. with a bullet smaller than .270 dia.!!!

Plus, look at drift and retained energy at 400 & 600 in your own supplied article. Go out to 800, and the GAP expands.

Another creed thread...sigh. The **** creedmoor is taking over this website. I will comment on the 25-06, since I have one. Biggest down fall of the 25-06 is the lack if high bc bullets, therefore factory rifles aren't manufactured with twist rates that will stabilize a higher bc bullet. The 270 has more recoil than either the 6.5 or the 25-06 when shooting heavy for caliber bullets...

I thought the 25-06 load he used was pretty reasonable. Mine is a lot faster with the 115gr bergers out of a 26" barrel.

Quick midway search ammo: 270 (52), 25-06 (25) 6.5x284 (8) and creedmoor (50). Plus hornady puts out the majority of options in all cartridges across the board, even hard to find. I have never seen hornady claim the creedmoor is the do all at any distance. It does keep a lot more guys shooting constantly though. I agree the 6.5 x284 is no slacker, but rifle availability and saami spec is the issue. Gunwerks even discussed this vs the prc.
Elk, well that just depends on what cartridge you are accurate with. Doesn't Kentucky have about 400 firearm permits per year? I guarantee that there are double that figure of elk killed in counties of wyoming on the openers with the 243. Hard to argue with experience and families that make it a generational thing killing with smaller diameter bullets.

IDK about that. I have killed decent 5 point bull elk with my 25-06 shooting those 115gr bergers. A lot closer than 1775 yards, but it still knocked the hell out of him.

I bet you I could kill one with my 22-250 at 200 yards or less! But it ain't an Elk rifle!

Ron Spomer is a shooting/hunting writer and the vast and overwhelming majority of hunters will never shoot at an animal over 300 yards let alone 500+. I have been hunting for 17seasons now and just this season had my first game animal shot at over 250yards. I shoot farther recreationally, but I would have to go out of my way to an intentionally set up to even have the potential at a 400yard hunting situation. In that regards he is right on that anything -06 based will kick the snot out of Creedmoor looking at velocity or energy numbers. Doesn't stop my wife from knocking whitetails in the dirt with her little Creedmoor or that my deer are more dead with the 270, 30-06, or 7RM.
I think the point of the article was for most hunters and the ranges most people hunt a 25-06 is just as good if not a little better, at least of paper, than Creedmoor.
