Can I still use 100 grain bullets with a 1:7 twist?

Yes, you should be able to run 100 grain bullets in a 1:7 no problem up to 3200-3300 fps. Due to RPMs they may perform more violently than at slower twist rates. That could be a good or bad thing but given 100 grain bullets and what they are meant to do on medium sized thin to medium skinned game that should be a good thing.

A lot of times with guys seeing bullets blow up it's the super magnum class of cartridges and it's later in the shot string after x number of rounds. I probably wouldn't go any lighter than 100 in a 1:7 but every barrel is different so you'd have to test and see.

if you're going to run 100gr bullets that fast and in that twist, you'd probably want to go with a solid copper projectile. no chance of blowup and they love to be pushed fast for maximum effect.

A good 6 months since the last post here but, I'm looking at a 25-284 at a finished 27"-28". My problem is, that, I don't know what velocities to expect. So, I don't have any idea on the twist. I currently live at around 200' above sea level but, expecting to move out West. Probable elevations will probably be 4500'-6000'+-.

Velocity does not have near as much to do with stability as people think. 2650 fps or 3100 fps, everything else being the same, really makes very little difference, as you can see. So disreguard velocity, get the twist rate based on everything else. If unsure, go .5" tighter.

My 25-284 wears a 28 inch 7.5 twist Krieger. Shooting 131grain BlackJack Ace with 54.5 grains of RL-26 3204fps. Shoots 1/2moa 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Have shot some in the .3s but it pretty much always throws them in a half inch group at 100 yards. I did shoot a 5 shot 4 inch group at 1000 yards with the same load. Figured that was good enough for now. Only thing I might do is try a Fed215m to see what it does to my ES.

This is what I was looking for! Thanks. Just checked on the Berger twist calculator and at that speed it's good from 200' elevation to at least 7000'. That's as far as I searched. Now, I can order my barrel.

210M. Just gonna try a 215m to see what it does. As I run them in my 25-06 with great results

Followed the entire thread. About time someone built a higher BC bullet for 25 cal.

I can see this high BC bullet being useful for long range target shooting. Didn't read anything about it being a hunting bullet.

Any comments 257 Blackjack?

I did shoot a smaller 8point whitetail that my buddy's kid hit. I had to finish it off. I shot it at 404 yards. Through the shoulders. Damage was substantial. Very comparable to what the Berger 140 VLD outta my 264 has done to whitetails.

I think it is going to be an even heavier tipped bullet. I may prefer the current version. Unless the hunting bullet will also be bonded.

I e-mailed BRUX barrels about a 7.5 twist. This morning they called asking why I wanted that twist. Wanted to know if there was a new bullet on the market. I told them about Blackjack 131 gr bullet. Ken at Brux was surprised and said they knew nothing about it. He said he would personally look into and get back to me. If you are looking for a barrel for the new Blackjack bullets an email/phone call to them might get another barrel maker on it for us.
