I like everything about NF ATACR 5x25x56 or new 7x35x56 except the size and weight. I really like the MOART illuminated. I'm only interested in SFP and MOA in .25.

But it weighs 39 ounces. I'd like to be less than 30 ounces.

Everyone runs down the NXS glass quality when compared to Zeiss and Swarovski. Seems like the NXS would be a nice compromise if they had similar quality glass.

My hesitation with the Zeiss and Swarovski is the vertical adjustment limitations. I'd like to shoot out to 1,500-1,700 yards for fun. Rifle is .300 Win Mag with 26" #5 fluted. Primary use will be hunting.

Is there a scope out there that meets my needs? Budget is 3k or less.

I have been shooting Zeiss V6 3-18 and it has a lot of travel and enjoy using it. I looked at the X5 as well and liked the glass on it.

For 1500~1700 yards, has to be ascope with a LOT of MOA adjustment. You will probably need 60~70 MOA elevation adjustment to get that far. March 2.5 - 25 x 52mm scopes have 120 MOA adjustment total. So a March with a 20 MOA 0r 30 MOA rail would probably be ideal. They come in at 24.5 ounces! The are a little over 3K, but hey, ya gotta pay to play.

Yeah. That looks like a perfect match. If I don't like it, will I take a bath on resale value?

I don't own one. I'm in a much smaller playground (LOL)... But I believe they hold their resale value pretty well like a NightForce.

WeatherbyFan above has a good idea with the new Zeiss V4 and V6. they have a $200 rebate right now. They hold resale value too.
They have a V6 3-18x50 that's 22 ounces with a 103 MOA elevation adjustment.
They have a v4 6-24x50 that's 24 ounces with 80 MOA

Anyone who "runs down" NXS glass is an idiot. It is very, very good. Is your ATACR with its ED glass better? Sure, but only by a small amount, and my 5-25 ATACR tunnels so that my real minimum is more like 6.5x (irritating, though I still love the scope - see photo at left).

Are Swaro and Zeiss better glass than the NXS's? Yes, but only by a small amount and their tubes, knobs and construction are too "delicate" to suit me, and their reticles too lacking.

You have to look at the whole package. An NXS 3.5-15x50 weighs 30 oz. and has 110 MoA of elevation adjustment. If you can stand the weight (which is simply the unavoidable price you pay for have the most indestructible scope made) that would be hard to beat. I don't think they ever made it with the MOAR-T but they used to make them in NP-R1 and NP-R2, which are almost exactly as thin as the MOAR-T and are illuminated. The whole reticle lights up, not just the little center "+" like on the MOAR-T, but who cares.

An NXS 5.5-22x50 weighs only 1 oz. more, and has 100 MoA of adjustment.

My favorite hunting scope is the Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-12.5x42 in MoA Dot. Weighs 22.5 oz. and has 90 MoA of adjustment. Has battery-free illuminated dot, very good glass. But if I'm not walking too far, make mine a NF, and an NXS that weighs 30 or 31 oz. is just fine.

That was a pretty big leap for me but I am really happy I took it. I used an optics planet discount code and got a great deal on one. I am way more likely to buy another one than sell the one I have.

Vortex amg would be a decent option to reduce weight but maintain similarities of ffp and decent glass and elevation adjustment. I keep thinking about trading a minox for one but not sure about the difference for what used prices seem to be. The minox is good but kinda heavier though not that bad.

KY_Windage,
I agree completely with the idea the NSX glass is very good. Trying to get a good Swarovski z5 5-25X52 was futile when compared to my NSX 12-42X56 and Bushnell 6500 4 1/2-30X50. Not one of the z5's could match the 6500 on an eye chart. They were close, but all needed 1X more to show the same detail. At a little over 500 yards the NSX was still on 12X. The 6500 was on 15 1/2X and the z5 on 16 1/2X. Also there was no contest in low light. The NSX lasted several minutes longer while trying to see deer antlers 127 yards away in the woods.

I own an NXS and I can tell you my Zeiss that I have and Swarovski that I had before I sold for the NXS glass quality is no better IMO and I love my nightforce far more wish I had money enough to get an ATACR but I would recommend an NXS to anyone
