You know what I laugh at? A guy who spent 10 years of owning 30 custom rifles, and can't get Sub MOA out of a basic $350 modern accuracy engineered factory rifle to take a basic 400 yard and under shot to seal the deal. Not uber 338 Super Sniper long range, basic 400 yards and under hunting!

But keep on buying high end gear Mr. 338 Sniper. The equipment doesn't make the man. With my basic beater $1000 rig, it always fills the freezer. Those aren't even my Tikka's BTW. We are talking a Savage Axis stainless and Nikon! Sub MOA and I redo trigger, stock, everything. Some of us take pride in actual work and ability.

Go ahead and hump a 10 -12lb AR10 rig in the mountains when you can just carry a 7.5 lb bolt rig and give you more FPS, handles rust and bad weather a lot better.

Sure, Tikka's, Ruger, Remington, Thompson, Savage, Kimber, Winchester, factory rifles are not accurate or good. They are Sub MOA with hand loads for everyone else, but not for you man. Ha.... I laugh too man.
no kidding....people ask what a good scope is and everyone starts throwing out top tier optics in the 3500 to 4000 dollar range...like someone that doesn't know which scope to buy in the first place can appreciate a top tier scope....
few people seem to be able to max out factory affordable rigs and they think dumping 10 grand will fix it...it wont...I cant outshoot any gun I have, when I can...maybe ill upgrade..

Another option to add to the confusion. Why not both? Build or buy an AR-10 to your liking and put the UPR 6.5 CR bolt action upper on it. These are quality uppers available in .308, 6.5 CR, maybe a couple more. I have the AR-15 uppers in .224 Valkyrie and .223 Wilde. Have some feed issues with the .223 depending on bullet type, but the Valkyrie is flawless. Service on the .223 problem was excellent. There are a couple of You Tube videos that give more detailed accuracy info than I have so far; I'll work on load development when it warms up.

Personally, I'm not a gas gun or .223 fan (not sure how I ended up with the cultter in my safe), rarely use those uppers—but the bolt guns from UPR get regular exercise, particularly the .224V. Just a thought...

I was going to come back at you hard but I just looked through your posts. I see you like to do this sort of thing, "keyboard commando". I also see where you mentioned your income being an issue.. I get it. I'm sorry you're poor brother. Let me guess you fish with a Zebco pushbutton & catch 450lb blue fin tuna with it too! Set up a go fund me page & I'll be the first to donate so you can get behind a real rifle & stop playing with crap. Instead of sitting up typing on a website @ 3am, I was sleeping so I can go shoot my custom rifles in the am & enjoy my day. If a heavy rifle is too much for you to carry, hit the gym! Happy holidays Mr. Garden Snake!

Looking for advise and opinions. I am looking for a rifle for antelope hunts and to eventually get into shooting 1000yds. But it will primarily be for hunting. As of now I do not reload so I have decided on 6.5 creedmore. I want a relatively light rifle but still capable for long range and bench shooting. I had fully decided on the tikka ctr until I read about the H.R. 7115 (house bill designed to ban building ars and lower parts kits). Kind of want to build one while I can. I know the ar10 will be heavier and it will cost more to build the way I want. Do you think I should go with the tikka or the ar10.
I recently built an Aero Precision M5 in 6.5 Creedmoor. I used a 24 inch BSF carbon fiber barrel and with the Hornaday 147 grain eld can get a 1/4 inch moa. Extremely fun rifle to shoot, and the BSF carbon fiber barrel really helps cut back on the weight some and has excellent accuracy.

I honestly think there was a legitimate point to what he had to say...personal attack aside....I see people with their custom guns out here shooting from led sleds and whining about their groups....there is a ton of money in my area and the ridiculousness of the mindset that comes with having it is apparent...rather than refine and improve skill most people think better equipment will get them where they want to be...
I shoot a .243 lrp savage and can out shoot most people here that have far better rigs..
another thing that sucks is the brand loyalty....everyone here thinks nightforce created adam and eve....

My best shooting gun is a savage 12fv 22-250 i got from cabelas for 219 with the mail in rebate. Bedded Boyd's stock and it shoots .1s.

Why I use the JP tank looks unusual, like a 1960s tank barrel, but performance wins over esthetics

I would like to suggest that the OP go with the bolt action for 6.5 CM and build himself a 6.5 Grendel for fun and profit.

I have a DPMS GII Hunter and the rifle is very accurate but I must practice with it at all times to be able to shoot the rifle accurately all the time. The rifle is just downright heavy. I can imagine it is heavier than most people want to pack around the mountains.

A home built 6.5 Grendel would be built with a standard AR-15 platform upper and lower saving quite a bit of weight over the AR10 platform. As soon as I get some leftover bills paid off, I am going to purchase or build my own 6.5 Grendel.

Good luck on your choice OP, kinda sorta the OP can buy "both" this way.

I already built a 6.8spc ar15 that shoots .25moa. That is a blast. Just wanting the 6.5 creedmore. I'll probably be going to with the bolt gun. Until I can gather all the pieces for the gas build.
