weather is warming up so thought i would get a head start. Last year before deer hunt in Utah bought new gun winchester coyote lite in 7mm wsm could'nt find any brass but found some factory ammo ( federal power shock 150 gr) thought I would sight in and use for this hunt then use brass to reload. After 4 trips to the range with no luck ended up using different gun. Gun would not shoot any reasonable group ie 2+ inches at 100 yds. so now I have time I am going to see if I can work up load. Thinking nosler 160 gr accubond 60 gr imr 4831 What do you think? By the way gun has vortex viper hs-t 6x24x50 and egw 20 moa bases.

if your 2" groups are consitsant you have a starting point, if there is no rime or reason to the pattern I would check for stock clearances and your scope mounts.
A friend of mine recently got a sweet 243 a Savage with a fluted bull barrel. He was not happy as he could not get it to sight in. We checked barrel clearance and the scope mounts, they where good so I put on my scope leveler and his scope was no where near level. Leveled it out and he was 1 holing bang on at 100 yards. Sometimes it is the easy solution that works.
For a 7wsm I personally would use a heavyer bullet try a 162 or 168 with imr 7828 or retumbo
Start with listed oal and start loads you should be able to find a sweet spot 1/2 to 3/4". From there play with different seating depths

Just over 10 years ago I bought a Winchester Model 70 Coyote(not coyote lite) in 300WSM and at first I was very disappointed with the way it shot--1 1/2-2 inch groups at 100 yards. I keep shooting and cleaning, then I used J-B bore paste to polish the barrel. This gun turned into a great shooter. I would say break the barrel in by shooting and cleaning and then work up a load with the bullets that you want to shoot. Of course you must make sure that the scope in of correctly and the action screws are tight etc., but this gun could turn into a good shooter

With a new gun start, Bedding, Barrel channel clearance. Action Screw Torque, Make sure scope and mounts are level and tight. You have 2 things that you have to approach as to the groups the gun shoots. Only shooting one bullet weight could not show you the rifles possibility. I fire lapped the barrel of a New 300 WSM to make sure barrel was at least smoothed out. and clean. First was 150 bullets 100 yds. 1 3/4 group. Clean barrel, Next 165 gr. load 100 yds, 1 1/4 group. Clean barrel. Next 180 gr. bullet. 100 yds. 9/16 inch. I have went back and tried other 150 gr. loads and 165 gr. loads with no respectful groups. Try Heavier bullets, That may be the solution. If you have access to a bore scope it may tell you the problem with out wasting ammo. Good Luck.
Thanks for the info . When we went to the range we did shoot three bullet groups stop clean gun let cool shoot three stop clean etc. Groups did not seem to change significantly. Will post again after shooting some reloads. If I don't get better paterns will head to gunsmith for some bedding and truing.
By the way have checked scope to make sure it is on correctly twice as I have had that problem before.

Personally, I think 4831 is too fast for that round and caliber. I'm liking 7828-H1000 burn rates.
I have the same rifle in an HS Precision stock. I could not get Winchester factory e-tip ammo to shoot under 2" groups. Muzzle crown is good. I bedded the receiver and changed out trigger springs to get a 2-2.5 lb trigger pull. That didn't improve dispersion with factory ammo.
Initially I was getting 1-1.5" groups with handloads. I found a node at about 1 gr below max load with Nosler 168 gr CC. I was able to get them to shoot a ~0.5" 5-shot group with 69 gr H1000 and Fed 215 M. I haven't checked repeatability yet. Seating right on the lands seemed to help.
I'm not done with load development. I'll move on to 160 gr AB after I finish dialing in the CC bullets. It's a slow thoughtful process because I don't want to shoot out the barrel developing loads.
Good suggestion above to polish the bore. I will try that.

Try another bullet. I had a 7mmRM that shot 7-8 inch groups with factory 150 gr Rem Corelock ammunition. Shot less than 3/4 inch with 175 grain reloads.

The 160gr Accubond bullet is easier to find an accurate load for than most .284" hunting bullets IMO. I had the best luck with IMR7828 and H1000 in my 7WSM.
