7mm Rem Mag 175gr “Realistic Velocity”

I am working up a load for my 7mm Rem Mag 26" 1:8 barrel. Of course accuracy is my 1st priority but I am wondering what velocity you guys think I should be happy to attain....what is the most that I should expect to get.

I am using RL33 and I have a quick load print out but I'm not sure where to start and what I should be happy getting out of it

2950-3050 should be fairly easily attainable in a 7RM pushing 175s depending on your rifle and powder choice.

I shoot a 180 Hybrid over H1000 (not the fastest powder, but ridiculously accurate and stable) @ 2996fps into the low .2s.

I also shoot the 184 Hybrid over RL26 @ 3055fps. That load is still in development stages, but in the .3s so far.

I loaded for a buddy's Lane Precision 7RM pushing the 175 Berger Elite Hunter over H1000 @ 2975fps that shoots in the low .2s.

I have a ton of RL33 in a 26" 1:8 barrel and a quick load chart so I would like to try it but I don't know where I can safely start.

I don't know if I should start at the 1st "Near Maximum" or lighter powder charge....all liability aside

Punching above 3k fps just adds heat and pressure and barrel wear. Once you're around 3k, call it a day. 100fps isn't going to give you anything magical. 2950-3050 is plenty.

I shoot mine at 2920 with H1000 and the 180 Berger. I shoot consistently under half MOA. Last trip out I shot a 1.25" 300 yard three shot then a 1" CTC at 450. I have to rechrono just to verify but I'm waiting for cooler weather closer to hunting season. My 450 group was about .75 MOA high, but my 300 yard was spot on.

I see no reason to really push the 7 RM once you get about 160gr bullets, the bullet design slips through the air so much better, I'd rather get a few more loadings on my brass. Just my thoughts.

All depends on pressure signs and of course accuracy. My 7MM rem mag with a 175 grain bullets start to show pressure signs around 2950FPS. That's with the chronograph about 15 ft from the end of the gun. With that said use your chronograph and watch for pressure signs and play around with the load development. Start low and work up your load by development. At the end of the day a LOW SD is what you want to achieve. Personal my sweet spot for 175 grain bullets is around 2925 FPS.

3K is very realistic with 180 weight bullets. I was running H1000 also with 180 bergers around 69-70 gr or so and with can I could get into the high 2900 area out of a 23" barrel.

I'd start at the bottom and do a speed graph of the whole array . just so I knew I didnt miss something awesome .. because it doesn't take too many more charges on the low end of the load just to see

This is spot on, I run the 180's at 2925 in a 23" , there was more velocity potential in the load but best accuracy was at 2925 .

I have a proven load (for me) that I settled in at 3056. My better load was at a node in the 3112-3113 range. However I was going to Sonora so I dialed it back to be safe.

Ive been running the ABLR 175 for six months, about 500 rounds. 26" 1:1.875 loaded with 64.0 grains of 4831SC. 2895fps, Holds 1/2 moa out to 900 yards, it has been a great load and very effective on game.
