I saw that in the email they sent out. It makes sense considering their shift towards lighter long range hunting rifles and the increasing market trend towards sub 30oz optics.

I would have extreme concerns about the tracking ability of these scopes. Leupold's track record lately frankly sucks. If they were going to do all that why not just have their own scope made by LOW in japan. huskemaw does and the one I have tracks darn good. I also see them selling vortex crap. I tested 2 brand new off the shelf PST 2 scopes and they had reticle cant. between leupold not tracking, vortex, well being vortex. I think gunwerks would be better off specing their own scope and having it built in japan.

What do you know about the leupold track record that makes you question Gunwerks choice of the Mark 5? Internet hearsay on the Mark 5 is quite positive.

Lower priced Leupold scopes versus higher quality and priced Leupold scopes? I'm always curious about current Leupold scope quality...

I had given up on Leupold for a stretch of around 10 years, but I am consistently reading good reviews on most of their newer, and higher priced rifle scopes.

I don't get it.....the swaro X5, 5x25x56, weighs 30oz.

Not knocking leupold...I have several of the Mark 4's....but they simply are not in the same class as swarovski.... and the mark 4 has better low light glass than the newer leupold HD series....as per leupold techs and customer service

VX6HDs in my opinion are some of the nicest lightweight LR hunting scopes out there. The features they have plus reticle choice(TMOA) as well as MIL options, 20moa/turn @ 1/4moa clicks, 2 rev zero-lock make it tough to beat. Plus they come in at under 30oz. Glass in them is quite a step up from than the MK4. I like the idea of the MK5 with the Gunwerks reticle. I would like to know more on how the reticle works for wind. Not sure why leupold doesn't offer the MK5 with the TMOA?
Tracking issues have been non-existent on the scopes I've had/shot with. Even for my older VX6 which isn't on the same level as the VX6HD.

All about price versus profit. Leupold is high priced junk on par with late model Vortex junk. The earlier Vortex was good, now, no. Leupold is an assembler just like Gunwerks. Leupold assembles scopes here in the US sourced from the lowest bidders world wide.. Zays right i their Q&A that they get their glass from many different sources. IOW, wherever it's the cheapest.

Gunwerks is just an assembler of components, they produce nothing. In fact I know who makes their receivers, made here in Michigan btw. When I want a real custom rifle I go to the people who build them, machine the receivers, chamber the barrels and put them together to my specs. not assemble them.

LOE don't build scopes. they only cast and polish glass. ow Swarvoski on the other hand produces everything in house, from the glass to the mechaincals to the tubes.

I might add that none of my hunting rifles, scoped, with 4 in the belly, weigh over 8 pounds I don't Need to lug around a tank and I cannot afford a lackey to carry a tank for me....

Have one in the gun cabinet. Weighs 13 pounds scoped and loaded. Miserable rifle to carry anywhere. Should sell it. Has a Vortex Viper on it (early model)

Some don't care if the product or the parts, are manufactured or assembled in the US or overseas. They only want the best scope for their money.

I am actually excited about this offering from Gunwerks and really like the floating dot and illuminated crosshair around it that I can see being beneficial on low power in dark timber. I wonder if this means the Mark5 will be offered with multiple MOA reticles in 2019.

+1 on that. Never looked thru a MK5, but seems like they would be the ticket.

I can think of two rifle builders that build their actions in-house...Kenny Jarrett and Jim Borden. Basically every rifle builder in existence is an, "assembler of components"...
