NGD: Savage 110 Predator 6.5 Creedmoor

Well... sort of... It is ordered. Hopefully comes in tomorrow.

This will be my first excursion with 6.5C. I am partial to the 110 line and plan on using it for some long-range bench time, yotes, and fields I hunt that are over 300 yards for whitetail. My old 110 30-06 with sporter barrel is a 1-3 shot wonder, then groups start walking at the range when the barrel gets hot, so I wanted the heavier fluted barrel for long shooting sessions, plus the Accustocks feel great to me, and I love the Accutriggers.

I will be topping it off (for now) with a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 I have and possibly some Talley rings (open to other higher-end suggestions). Eventually I will upgrade the glass. I will be replacing the included 2-piece Weaver mounts with a pic rail.

Question: for shooting out to 500 yds and beyond, should I go with a good 20 MOA rail? I have about 30 MOA elevation adjustment up to play with on the Monarch, so I am thinking I should be good with a flat rail (*Now this is coming off my other Savage mounted with a DNZ medium rig, so IDK). I don't think I will be shooting past 1000, and I don't want to jack up my closer shots if need be.

Go 20 Moa rail. You'll be able to zero at 100 and gives you piece of mind knowing you will have enough travel for any range you expect to shoot.

Just some random info for you, there are aftermarket springs you can buy for the accutrigger that will lighten it to a pound. I have them on all my accutriggers and love them. If you want I'll send you the link. I love all my Savage rifles.

You won't need a rail at all to get to 500yds.

Check the drops on a ballistic chart or App at the distances you plan to stretch it to. Most likely you'll find you need no more than 10-20MOA max.

Priceless and so very good to hear. There can be few things scarier for a parent than such a possible diagnoses.

That one is certainly prayer worthy.

Yeah he's doing fine... It wound up being a strain of the mono virus which actually acts and appears very similar to leukemia. High fever killed his platelets and white cells. Only way to rule it out and get the answers was a bone marrow tap. The time spent waiting for the results was hard. But he's well and we're thankful is wasn't what the drs initially thought.

SO glad to hear your son is well! Yes, things, like rifles, are nothing in the grand scheme of things and are easily replaceable.

Coming off my other Savage, the scope I will be using had exactly 30 MOA up from a 200 yd zero, which on a ballistic chart for 6.5 Creedmoor, is right at 1000 yards. Still have 20 MOA down. Depending on variance in the rail I buy, I would be afraid that a 20 MOA rail would bottom out and possibly be too high at anything around 100.
