I have a limited budget but I have some good pieces. My biggest choice is a stock , there are 3 in my budget
1 magpul hunter 700 l/a
2 pro mag archangel 700 l/a
3 laminate wood precision thumb hole stick with aluminum block bed

The pro mag has aluminum pillars while the magpul and wood stock have aluminum block beds . What is the difference? And how does it relate ? The archangel has adjustable buttplate and cheek pad, while the magpul and wood stock only have buttplate adjustments?
I have a very nice rem 300 win mag bdl in ss with a Pentax lightseeker 30 6x24x56 on the rifle which will surfice till I can upgrade.
Just trying to get some guidance, thanks for the help

The pillars are just little tubes that act as rigid spacers between the action and bottom metal allowing consistent torquing. The block does the same thing but provides an aluminum face for the recoil lug to rest against. With bedding they'll all be equal.
Aren't those archangels like 4lbs?

4.2 lbs

I have a few of the magpul stocks and like them for what they are. For about $275 you get a very rigid, decent weight stock/chassis and a DBM setup. Hard to beat that. You can adjust the length of pull as you mentioned but you can also swap out the cheek riser for different height risers but those don't come with the stock and must be purchased separately. I have one in LA and two in SA...great low cost options in my opinion.

Thank you for your insight! Just trying to figure all this out

Just remember if you want the DBM it is a separate part from the stock. If you want to use factory bottom metal/floor plate, you don't need to purchase anything other than the stock itself.

The pro mag is a decent stock for the money but it does have a fair bit of flex in it.

Pillars will never stiffen a stock in the way an aluminum bedding block does. Mostly they keep you from crushing the stock when tightening the bolts and keep the torque more consistent.

The Archangel is tacticool junk that I wouldn't waste my money on.

I am extremely fond of the wood laminates and good composites but when you step up to the latter the price goes up considerably.

You could do a lot worse than simply dropping your existing 300wm into a decent stock adding a good trigger and proper bedding. You might in fact be amazed in how much such a seemingly mild remodel can do to make a real shooter out of a so-so gun.

Consider this too. While thumbhole stocks look cool unless you've shot them before I wouldn't encourage you in that direction especially if you plan on putting it around anything with significant recoil. With a heavy recoiling caliber it's quite easy to seriously damage your thumb with that style stock.

I recently purchased two of the Stockys long range stocks, and they are great. They are a rigid material that will not.flex and touch your barrel under stress, they have an aluminum bedding block, a very nice palm swell and grip angle, and lastly, you can choose between two different barrel channels, depending on your barrel diameter. I paid $169 for one of mine and $199 for the other with a premium finish. Both were in stock and at my door in a couple of days....love them

I would be careful with the KRG Bravo in long action. I built a rifle on that chassis, and there have been a multitude of issues with mag fit, and cheek piece interference. I like the chassis a lot other than those two issues, and I would not hesitate to use a bravo short action, but be sure you do a lot of reading before you go that route.
