Just got my 6.5-300 Weatherby build done.

After Chronograph and a little load development, the results are outstanding.

143 Gr ELD-X flys along at 3550-3600 FPS. 140 GR bergers at 3500. .65 MOA group at 100 yards.

With these loads, BC of .625 for ELD-X, the ballistics are better than a 300 win mag and a lot of others that have much more recoil.

Don't really know why I will need anything else to hunt ELk or mule deer with.

If someone has any other loads for this caliber, feel free to chime in

3600 with a 143 man that's screaming fast. How much pressure do you think that's running? You might not want to list the load but I'd be curious.

What twist rate did you use for your build? The 150 SMK needs a 7.5 twist and has a bc near 0.7. At 3400 fps that would shoot even flatter or at least have more energy at 1000 yds.

I have no idea on pressure, but this is backed off max load.
I burnt a couple of primers and went back to the drawing board.

I just think this round/caliber/load is hard to beat. If there is somebody that has one please fill free to share

8.5 Bartlein 5r match grade

I see a big problem with it... its not mine. Haha. Man that looks like a hell of a rifle and load. I'd load a ton of ammunition and shoot. And maybe order a couple extra barrels. Best of luck

Your rifle sounds like a blast. I'd love to try it for shooting hogs at 1,000 yds. But just my opinion, for what little it's worth, I'd rather have a bigger bullet at that distance for elk. Like the 300 Weatherby shooting the Berger 215.

Very nice! What's the recoil like? Pretty sharp I imagine
Recoil is minimal, I would say 25-06 or so with the Thunder Beast suppressor on. My dad got behind it and shot it one handed to test recoil, it didn't jump back at him.

Reason I say 25-06 is because we shot and checked zeros on4 more guns that day.

22-250, 270 Weatherby, 300 Weatherby and my cousins 25-06

25-06 was very similar. Recoil was nowhere near the 270 Weatherby which is worse than 300 Weatherby with a break.

I have attached ballistic chart for the 210 grain Berger in the 300 Weatherby ( I own one of these as well) It has the same ballistic coefficient as the 143 grain eldx. The ballistics aren't even comparable

6.5-300 and 143 eldx out performs 300 Weatherby wirh 210 bergers at every yardage mark in both velocity and ft lbs of energy.

Watch video above. Most kills are with 143 grain eldx in 6.5-284.

I have also attached the 6.5-300 ballistic chart to compare
