I have been looking at actions for a new rifle. My experience is limited to the two I own
one is a Lone Peak Fuzion stainless .The other is a Surgeon 1086 and to tell the truth they seem pretty much equal? The MSRP is within $50.00 on them. After you pass a certain price point are they all about the same? Or does one brand really stand out above the others? Thanks!

I ordered a Curtis customs because I can call the owners cell and talk to them about what I need and what I want to build.

Lots of people make accurate actions.

The first time I called Joel I was interested in one of his killer stocks. We chatted for over an hour in the middle of his day. I ended up ordering a vector, and hope one day to drop it in a stock made by him as well.

edit* this has now become a reason to buy a terminus

As mentioned there are so many good ones out there and most folks won't be able to tell the difference in performance from one to the next. With that said, I have Defiance and Stiller and only because that was what the builder used for the build

For the money I have always been fond of stiller. I've never had a problem with one of them. I've had other actions that cost more but I never shot any better with them. If your going to build a custom benchrest competition rifle I'd buy a bat or maybe a Borden but stiller is a good all around manufacturer

Tightest action I've seen is a BAT! They hide pressure so we'll you can get yourself in trouble. For a hunting action though, they can be a little too tight if you get any dirt in it.

I have two Stillers, a short action and a long action. I love the short action for its smoothness and good fit. The long action has a sloppy bolt fit and the locking lugs don't equally contact. The long action is still a great shooter but I was hoping to have that smooth feeling operation.
For my next action I was planning on using Defiance.

I would have a hard time deciding on 'The Best Action' because I've used nearly every one available to us as builders and consumers. We are extremely fortunate to have the breadth of selection and list of variables available for our selection from so many action makers. There are also the specialty designs for those who need something in the extremes of either cartridge or environment. Then add in Titanium!

The price point is no mystery anymore with the advent of a readily available internet to source prices and manufacturers. The generalized price point is what nearly every maker addresses with their list price. Those who stick their noses up in the air thinking and trying to prove that they are better because they cost more often don't win as often as they might like to. Then you have BAT, who, as a company, is so busy they have chosen to limit their production by raising their prices. Sometimes you just can't add machines and people to increase production so you raise the prices to limit some of the folks. Some of the industry's finest suppliers and manufacturers have found themselves in the same boat. Demand, as we all know, can and does outstrip the supply.:eek:

Now add in our Canadian brothers; Cadex and Fierce along with others I forget right now. All of these folks deserve our support because of how and why they supply us with the actions and components we need.

Regards.
