Looked through a vx5 the other day in 2-10x. Loved it. Got me thinking....the fireDot bullet drop reticle appeals to me, clean looking, still allows for holdover and the fireDot is a nice feature. With the 2 rotation turret, I think the vx6hd 2-12 would be a nice scope for a mountain backpacking rifle for 500-600 yard max range. For someone like me that doesn't do a lot of dialing....I actually don't mind holdover.....I'm not super concerned about dialing from 1000 to 200 back to 500 etc...however it would be nice to have the option.

Thoughts?

I like the BRH on my swaro, it does get a little busy.

I read good reviews in the VX5 and VX6 Leupys. Initially I'd read of some failing and being shipped back for repair, which kept me from buying.
Most everyone agrees they have very nice glass. If they hold together and the turrets are also reliable, they sound very appealing for the backpack hunter on the go.
I use 2 - Swaro Z5s, 3.5-18X BRH with aftermarket turrets for dialing. After 3-5yrs use, I continue to like them a lot for backpack hunting with shots out to 1000yds.

What aftermarket turrets do you have?

High Power Optics sells and installs them, at least for the Z5s. Around $110 if you replace both turrets. Which model Swaro do you own? PM me if you're unable to find the HPO's website.

Found it. Interesting. Basically I'd have a capped turret for twisting should I have the desire to twist. Which model do you have? I like it.

This scope would be on a .300 win mag.

Yup. Light weight was a priority for me for backpack hunting. And I don't mind capped turrets. Keeps them safe & sound during the hunt. If I set up for a long range shot, I normally have time to uncap & twist turrets.
My turrets number up to ~52 in both directions. Up or down, left or right. The turrets aren't as nice as what comes on some of the 2lb and heavier scopes, but I find them completely functional for my backpacking/LRH use. I have exceeded one full revolution up on a number of shots without problems.

I have the non HD version of the VX-6 2-12x42 and will not buy another scope that doesn't have the parallax adjustment. The scope is set at 100 yards for parallax and you will have issues at longer ranges. I posted a thread about it a while back.

Good to know

Agreed.
For LRH get parallax adjustable scope.
If I bought a lightweight Leupy it would be in the 3-15x or 3-18x power range.

If I git another lite wight hunting scope it will most likely be a vortex razor hd lh.
I have one of those too. They're OK for the money, but don't measure up to the Swaro Z5. So much that I removed the Vortex from my rifle and bought a 2nd Swaro.
Mine is purchasable. Just been too lazy to list it.

Don't forget about the Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42. I have a couple of these scopes and they have very good glass, I'd say it's about on par with my non HD VX6. The 3-15x42 model has side focus, too. You can get them with a couple different reticles but I think for distance hold over shooting their Hsr-4 MOA reticle would be the one you'd want.
