Pig hunting with knife and dogs

IMG_3646.JPG
Two of us hunted one evening and one morning both shot two pigs. One over feeders and one spot and stock. Saw lots of hogs this is a low fence ranch and was well stocked. The place was nothing fancy but very functional. The beds were hard I'll take a air mattress when if I ever go back.

I have been around this type of hunting growing up and throughout my life. I have many friends that ran dogs in the past. It is not hand to hand combat and it is not torture. The dogs do all the work. Some guys just don't like shooting hand guns around their dogs, it's loud. They will stab them a few times behind shoulder with a 16" double edged knife and they bleed out and expire quickly. Much faster than an arrow from a bow hunter. It's amazing to see how well some of the bay dogs work together as unit, then to watch the catch dogs go in and their job. I have been lucky enough to get invites to hunt some large ranches with friends and see their bay dogs run over 30 miles in a night tracked by gps collars and still want more. You will also see the hogs start to adapt and show just how clever they really are. I used to go from time to time but some guys just live for this and it's their passion.

Do you have any connections for this type of hunt? Really would like to do it not inside of a fence. Don't know if that's possible? If you can hook us up with someone I would be glad to take y'all Walleye fishing on Green Bay here in Wisconsin in return.

I understand the dog thing. I ran hounds for lions for a few years. It was all about the dogs. Well trained hounds with boundless drive are no less than impressive. Bird dogs that know their job and do it with precision are to be marveled. Many of the cats that were treed were left. Some were shot.

I watched video of poachers in South Africa. They run with packs of dogs and sharpened re-bar spears. It was barbaric at best.

I will bow out now. I should not have commented from the start.

I've had to kill one hog with a knife. My mother shot it "behind the ear"...I hate hearing those words. Any way she hit it exactly where she wanted but missed the spine.

She thought it was dead and sent me to go get it. I did all the skinning work any way so off I went...Un-armed!

I finally tackled the thing after chasing it a while through the south Texas brush and dispatched with my hunting knife! It's not something I would look forward to doing again. Tackling the hog was not a big deal...that was the fun part!
