Has anyone had a chance to try this yet? It seems to be a high energy, high density powder that may have some good possibilities for the Sherman and other cases. I wonder how the temp stability is?....rich

Attached some LRT load data straight from the Ramshot website. The cartridges and components listed may yield some clues regarding how LRT might be useful.
What jumped out at me was that 6.5-284 Norma is listed. It is nowhere near as overbore as the other chamberings in the data. Given that powders like Retumbo, H1000, and RL26 are known to work well in 6.5-284, that may serve as a starting point for figuring things out. Seems LRT may be worth investigating in other chambers that can use those powders. The primer type being used in the 6.5-284, in contrast with the other chamberings listed, is also worth noting.
The product description for LRT on midwayusa.com states LRT has a burn rate similar to Retumbo.
As for temp sensitivity, we know that ball powders are typically more sensitive to temp than extruded powders. The question is to what extent? I saw the website and it appears to be considerably slower than retumbo to me. There is no way you could fire 66 grains of retumbo behind a 140 in a 6.5/284!
I can't even fire that much in my Sherman. It appears to me more like n570 only you can put more in the case

The 66 grains of LRT in a 6.5/284 behind a 140 was driving me crazy as it was supposed to be the same burning rate as Retumbo so I called Ramshot and had a nice chat with their tech. He confirmed that 66 grains was indeed the max load, but couldn't/wouldn't explain the approx 10 grains difference in charge needed (if you could put that much retumbo in a 284 case) which of course you couldn't!
When you look at data for the 300 RUM, the charge weights ARE similar. I know different cartridges act differently with the same powder, but that is REALLY extreme.
At any rate, he did say that LRT would give 110' more than a max load of Rimshot Magnum, which is saying something! He also said that they tested the powder for temp sensitivity from -40 to +140 and saw 3-5% variation. I'm not exactly sure if that is a linear scale, but would like to know if it was the same ratio from 20-90 degrees F.

I called their tech a while back as well and got the same answer. I left as confused as I began with the same question. Ya, it would be great if you could get that much in?? It's kind of like the old saying " if we had a little ham, we'd have ham and eggs, if we had any eggs"!

Yes, I talked to a tech also and was confused. He said it would be to slow for 7WSM and 7WBY. but then they use it in 6.5-284 and 30 Nosler. Doesn't make sense to me.
Just seeing this Ramshot LRT powder information now. Anybody have any additional first-hand experience on burn rate?
I HAVE to use spherical/ball powder in my 25 RUM to prevent powder bridging. Kirby Allen used to like and recommend H870 (no longer manufactured) in his .257 Allen Magnum. Western Powder's web site says LRT is similar to Retumbo, and they say Retumbo is similar to H870. So it sounds like my best ball powder option in this grossly overbore 1/4 bore cartridge.
Time for further internet research on LRT burn rate information...
So it is slower in burn rate than Ramshot Magnum? Would that be your take on it Rich? Or not necessarily so...
Slower than Ramshot is a must for my use.
