Does anyone have experience with the barrel life on a 22-250ai? I would be shooting 95smk pretty much exclusively, but with 10 round rapid firing. What's everyone's thoughts on round count? I thought 1200?

I would think closer to 2000 rounds or more.
I have both standard 22-250 and 22-250AI barrels on the same Rem 700 VSSF II rifle, both have about the same amount of erosion. The AI barrel is used in short range F-Class matches, has seen 1121 shots so far with less than .030" throat erosion. I don't run super hot loads and only use Varget powder. The standard barrel has 1400+ rounds down, it has .025" erosion using H4895 and Benchmark.
If you don't burn the barrel, it should last quite a while, my 26"/28" Sendero contour barrels take quite a few shots to heat the barrel, you don't say what contour you're running, this is important for the answer.

Cheers.

Haven't decided, but it'll be heavy. M24 contour at the heaviest and rem varmint at the lightest.
Does the 22-250ai feed as reliably with the 40 degree shoulder as the standard 22-250 or a 30 degree shoulder? I would be using it for competition so it would need to cycle perfectly.

Barrel life should be similar to a 243 or 6mm creed. Probably a hair less then a 6mm creed. I'm assuming your wanting this for a prs round. I would go with the 30° shoulder of the 22 creed if you wanted 100% reliability if feeding.

The M24 contour is about the same as a Sendero/VSSF II contour, .680"ish at the muzzle?
I really don't have an issue with feeding from the magazine, but I always polish the feed lips on Rem rifles as I have always found them sharper than I like.
In the comps here, you can only run a case from the follower into the chamber, it is not allowed to have a cartridge in the magazine, I understand your discipline is different, but the only thing this rifle is used for outside of comps is for spotlighting from a dedicated pickup with shooting racks/rests atop the roof. Then, I only use the standard factory barrel in 22-250 for this.

Cheers.

Mine made it to just over 1k rounds before bullets started blowing up mid flight. It was run hot in prairie dog towns several times with a hot load. 50 grain z-max @4000 fps 24" 14 twist factory barrel. Accuracy never fell off to much then all the sudden bullets didn't make it to the target. Tried to figure out how much throat erosion it had but couldn't reach the lands with any of the bullets I have on hand. Awesome round though!

G1 of .6 at 3100+fps? Sounds like you're onto something :D
For 600m it holds the edge over 6, and 6.5s in the wind and with less recoil.

For prs you feed from a magazine and if you hit and wind seems stable you rock through ur rounds as fast as able.

Thanks, but your info disappoints me. I have a lot of 22-250 brass. I guess such as it is. Probably should go with 22creed

I just shot a match with my 308 and the wind was a switchy and gusty as it gets. I had a hell of time and could not compete with higher bc rounds. I came out on top of the guys running 308s. But want to compete against everyone.

6mm sst is in cruise control at 3200 with a 110 or 115. Maxes near 3500. The new 25 sst will run the new 130 blackjack .330 g7 easily at 3200' Top quality brass available in 2 weeks. I tested the brass shooting the 147 at 3030' in my 6.5 sst. At 20 firings, the pockets we're still TIGHT!

As a disclaimer, I only have experience with a 22-250AI on a savage action which aren't exactly the smoothest feedinging actions out there. It would probably be ok in a Remington, but just looking at that round next to my creed, it just doesnt look conducive to ultra reliable feeding. I'm still going to build one some day. There's something about that 95 smk at 3200 fps.....

Can't advise you on barrel life, but with 22 CM brass being produced there is no way I'd go with the 22-250 AI. If I'm not mistaken, you can even fireform your 22-250 brass into .22 Creedmoor.

You can use 22-250 brass for a 22 Creedmoor. Just load it up and fireform it

Yeah I've been thinking about the sst also. Will they run in 308 aics mags or do they need wsm mags?
