Is anyone else having issues loading rounds for an SPS Tactical in .308 with a 20 inch barrel? This gun shoots 168 and 178 Amax lights out with either 44.0 gn or 44.6 gn of Varget but I'm having a very hard time finding a load that will shoot under 1 moa with the ELD-X pill. I've tried seating depths from touching the lands to factory 2.80 COL and a wide range of power charge with no luck. I'm starting to wonder if this gun just flat out will not shoot the ELDs.

I have a 16.5" barrel and I found that 41.3gr of Varget was the winner in win brass with cci 200. Definitely liked the jump in mine about 2.83 coal. Jump of about .136 ish.

Running about 2475 in mine. Not fast but sub MOA if I do my part.

This bullet has given me fits in a few rifles.

42.7gr varget with cci lrmatch in lc brass at 2.825" in my 16" 308, running 2475fps also...sub moa if I do my part

You're also running a 16 inch barrel on a .308. Close to 2,500 FPS Is pretty awesome. I love those little sps tacticals. I had the 20 inch version and it shot everything well. To the OP, Good luck with load development. I'm sure you'll find the right combo soon!!

my 20" tactical likes varget, BLC2, and H380 all seated long, beyond magazine length. The H380 tends to shoot the best groups. Give that a try

178 eldx have more bearing surface. I would start it from scratch. And rework the load data. I actually used like 45. something gr of varget before I got mine to work without a 10 degree temp change outside durasticly changing my node. Using the 700 tactical w/ 20 inch barrel. So same gun. Seating depth will proably be the issue though. I tuned my die to how they did their factory bullets and left it there.

one thing I will say about my 700 tactical - seating depth is critical. Bullets loaded long, to just off the lands, will shoot into one small ragged hole on a good day. The exact same load, seated to saami specs, will give me 2" groups.

Have you found this to be true for all bullets or just a few? My 700 tactical shoots the Amax very well at factory COL all the way out to .060 past COL. I tried Bergers once but moved on to another project before finding a sweet spot. Found Bergers to be way more finicky.
