Reloading for friends

I'm curious how many of you reload for other people and how you handle it? Do you buy all the components and get reimbursed? What about dies (assuming it's for something you don't already have a die for) Do you store "their" components separately? Do you have them do the testing for the load development or do you shoot for them?
I'm curious to hear how folks go about doing this.

I'm very careful about that. When I started reloading I had a friend bring up the issue of liability and what would happen if one of our loads badly injured, or God forbid, killed someone. I've only let my brother shoot my loads since then.

You can let them shoot your ammo but "producing" ammunition specifically for someone elses use gets into shaky legal ground not just on liability grounds. You cannot charge them anything for the service or you may be "manufacturing" ammunition which would require an FFL.

My method is, they can use my press in my presence and I'll even help them set it up but it's on them as to what they produce, they take it all with them when they leave, they can't store anything at my place and they bring all of their components. Then they buy a press and do it themselves next time. Otherwise, they can shoot my ammo while I'm around and in my guns & that's it.

I have loaded for a few really close friends that I have since mostly turned into loaders. To keep it legal I started them out taking part in the loading process. Stuff like sizing the cases and cleaning the primer pocket. I usually calculated the price of components if I had them on hand and they paid me for them or if I didn't have them they got their own. Only situation of not having a set of dies was for my cousins 250 Savage which I had him order along with some cases. I have done the work ups on the loads for these my self. I have been loading for over 40 years and the calibers I have loaded for these friends I have worked with before except for the 250 Savage. Usually 30-06, 308 & 8mm Mauser I have go to loads that usually shoot great in most any rifle so it does not take much work. I would never load for anyone that I really don't know REALLY WELL with the sue crazy society we live in these days. Remember to be legal they have to have something to do in the process.

I do the same they bring there dies and components let them use my press and over see what they do so they don't blow them selves up I make them have there own dies because mine are set up for my guns and once there set I don't like to Change them

Other than my own guns, I only load for one of my good friends, and my brother's rifle these days.

But for quite a while I did reload for my buddy's .300WM...At first. He wanted to learn how to reload and use all the specialty equipment, so then I taught him how to use all my equipment, and he started buying his own powder, primers, bullets, dies, etc... and just kept them in a special spot over at my house, and when he came over, I'd watch TV while he loaded up his own, and if he had any questions he'd ask. Other than that, I don't really load for anyone these days, but if it was someone I trusted, I'd ask them to bring their rifles to me, so I can get exact chamber specs, and stuff like that, so I know exactly what I'm up against. Then work out a load myself with their gun, because I know what to look for as far as pressure signs, nodes, reading the chrono, etc...

I'll let close friends come over with their own components and dies and reload with my equipment, I'll typically help them set-up, or at least point them to the info they need to set-up their dies and find load data.

But it's on them to put everything together, I'm not going to be responsible for blowing some one up.

I load for a few friends and relatives with them doing a majority of the process. We go over the options for components, charges and seating. My input from experience with the caliber and variables is added. They buy everything and take the leftovers home. I've helped several who now do their own at home. My three grandsons load their own with my son's supervision. I really enjoy reloading except for the case prep.

I will teach people to reload and allow them to use my equip as part of that learning process. Outside family or people I would call my brothers no way no how.

I'm curious, would you (not you specifically but anyone on this thread) let someone borrow one of your rifles with your reloads? It's kind of the same issue right?
